12-16 really wouldn't look that bad

This could be Cubs cleanup hitter Soriano's big day and start of his hot streak which the Cubs will ride thrashing through those good teams coming up on the schedule

Finally a day game! (for all you day drinkers/alcoholics)

Yeah. Was disappointed when I went to the game on Tuesday and couldn't buy beer after 9:20.

Great job by Bruce getting these quotes on why Starlin is 5th. http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/7512

Starlin Castro again is in the fifth spot, as Sveum is going with his right-handed hitting lineup. Don’t get too used to Castro hitting fifth.

“In our normal lineup, he’s going to hit second,” Sveum said. “I don’t really want to get away from our normal lineup.”

Sveum said part of the deal is being creative with the lineup and getting Cody Ransom up higher in the order against the lefty.

“With Ransom, you ride a hot guy,” Dale said. “If he’s in a position to hit home runs, you want to make sure he gets 3 at-bats off that left-handed starter.

“You have to be a little creative sometimes with the lineup. You just can’t be so vanilla. If somebody’s really hot and they’re hitting home runs all the time off left-handers, you want to make sure he gets 3 at-bats off that left-handed starter and not hit him seventh to where he might get 2 at-bats. It’s that extra at-bat you’re trying to get that really hot hand at the time.”

Well, that's an overreaction.

Cody Ransom career vs. LHP .251/.319/.489 in 256 PA's .808 OPS

Starlin Castro career vs. LHP .315/.366/.444 in 507 PA's .810 OPS

Yup lets make room for Ransom, Dale, and move Starlin down when he's equally as good vs. LHP

Because it only serves to fuel The Kapman on my twitter feed, and I need to follow him for trade scoops.

I'm not, just think it's stupid we are moving our franchise SS around in the lineup for Cody [expletive] Ransom when the reasoning our manager is giving is disproved by stats. If Ransom was clearly better v. LHP I'd get it, but he's not.

Ransom in the last week plus is 6 for 10 with 3 home runs and 2 doubles against LHP. For the curious, that's a 2.334 OPS. Getting him an extra PA against a LHP right now, even at Castro's expense, is probably a good idea while he's seeing the ball THAT well.

This is fine, I guess, but only if Dale's going to move Ransom back down pretty much immediately when he inevitably goes 0/8 for a two-game stretch in this lineup.

Did you read the quotes from Dale on the matter?

It's 5th. He's not batting 9th. And it's not like Castro is some 1000 OPS hitter that can never be moved out of the top of the order. He's really good for his position/age, but he's not a no doubt about it first inning hitter.

I agree, but when the options/alternatives are Dave Sappelt and Cody Ransom he is.
