Girardi. Or at least he insinuated very clearly it was Girardi.

I'm told negotiations with Girardi are much more "developed" than people know. #Cubs

If that's all true, I wonder how long they'd put up the charade of a search/interviews before we got an announcement to avoid tampering accusations.

Theo said ?s about Sveum as long term manager surfaced at start of season, met with him after AS break to address it

And yet he supposedly had no idea 2 weeks ago

Girardi won't be hired. That's all mist, not smoke.

Of potentially available names, the stuff Theo said almost seems to point directly toward him.

Girardi is under contract until November 1. I think they can hire him immediately. He's done in NY if that is what he wants. He did say his family is pretty well settled in NY, but that's what they all say.

Yuck.

I dunno why Girardi has this reputation of working in young players. With the Marlins, he had no choice. That's all they had.

Well yeah, but he wouldn't have any choice here either. What is your point? The fact is, he did work with younger players that year, and he did pretty good with them. It was an even more extreme situation than ours, even.

I'm pretty sure the Cubs could do far, far worse than Joe Girardi. So....careful what you wish for.

Len just undersold the quality of the farm system...heh.

Said top 10, if not top 5...more like top 5, if not top 1.

Probably better for him to undersell it considering the rest of the Chicago media is going to ridiclously overhype it (and then turn on the prospects when they start struggling a bit).

Dale is good baseball man & a lifer in the game. Taught me a lot. Will miss him. Next mgr will be my 5th in 10 yrs here. Not an easy job.

My first thought...Len's been here 10 years!?

Next year will be his 10th season. He's been here 9 years (hired after 2004 season for 2005).

And yeah, that's nuts. When people say 10 years ago, I still default to thinking of the 90's...not Wood and Prior.

I will bet anyone $10 that on PTI today, Wilbon mentions how the Cubs missed out on their chance to get Ryno.

Wilbon also decries people who think pitcher wins are a stupid stat. Who [expletive] cares what he thinks about baseball?

I'm so glad I don't watch 24 hour sports networks anymore.

Amen to that

Which means we need to be thankful for the people here who do watch the 24 hours sports networks, thus we can get our sports news from this one board.

I think someone (davell?) posted a Phil Rogers article a few weeks ago mentioning Tony Pena. Wonder if he's being considered or if he'd come with Girardi as his bench coach like he was in NY.

I don't know, all hints seem to point to Girardi. When media first asked about it a couple weeks ago and Theo said it was borderline disrespectful. He sorta had that shy smile on his face, the same kind you get when your a teenager and your friends say "yooouuuu liiiike heerrrrr" and you're like "NO I don't!".
