yeah the HBP part basically makes that anecdote totally worthless/dumb

Saw some meathead on Facebook complaining that Rizzo needs to hit more home runs with runners on base, then he dropped a stat that I could've sworn was nonsense, but it was actually true.

The last time Anthony Rizzo hit a home run with more than one runner on base was September of 2012. He's also only hit 3 of that variety in his career, all in 2012. Thought that was pretty crazy. Still a meathead reaction, but a statistic that seemed a bit implausible at the same time considering he's hit over 60 home runs since then.

Heard that a few weeks ago and didn't seem implausible at all with the lineups he's been hitting in.

Rizzo probably had like 8 ABs with 2+ runners on before this season.

His career OPS with runners on first and second is .432. With runners on first and third, it's 1.046. Baseball is a weird game.

Maybe if the guys on second would stop doing this during his ABs, he'd have more success.

Touché. That said, I like to think that when Rizzo has more than 1 one runner on base he's become smart enough to know that a home run is not the easiest of outcomes, and his goal is to drive in runs any way possible, so he doesn't go up there looking long ball, which makes me love what he's become even more. Like someone said in the game threads, Rizzo is the player I always dreamed the Cubs would one day have in their lineup. He's the best.

Time to reset the "days since" counter on this one.
