Rizzo is easily our best player and one of the best in the entire game now.

I know this may be outside the box but Is he really untouchable? What kind of return could the cubs get for him?

#1 starter and a ton of prospects?

No one is untouchable but no team is going to give the Cubs enough to make trading Rizzo worthwhile, and bringing it up is pointless

I like thought experiments.

If LA were to offer the Cubs Pederson, Guerrero, Urias and Seager I'd have to at least consider it. I have no idea why they would offer that, but I'd certainly consider it.

I honestly think the only 2 players I include Rizzo in a trade for are Trout and Harper, I understand we'd maybe (likely) have to include more players. But that's it for me.

Stanton.

FWIW

2014

Rizzo - 5.6 WAR in 140 G

Stanton - 6.2 WAR in 145 G

2015

Rizzo - 2.4 WAR in 50 G

Stanton - 1.7 WAR in 52 G

Age virtually the same (Rizzo 3 months younger). One is signed through 2027 for $325M with a player opt out in like 2020 (at which point he'll have made $107M). The other is signed through 2021 for like $68M

On a 1 for 1 basis, the list is Trout, Bryant (lucky us!), and mayyybe Joc Pederson if you really believe his start will continue. There are no others on the list.

I assume no Bryce because he's going to get PAID in a few years?

I almost feel bad for Rizzo, but he was far from a sure thing to become a superstar. The deal made a ton of sense for him. Just sucks for him that he could've wound up one of those enormous contract guys.

Either way, though, he's set comfortably for life and so are his children's children barring any stupidity.

Correct, Rizzo is owed 6/59 after this year until FA, Harper something like 3/30(maybe more).

I kind of want Harper and Baez to be gonzo on our team, making st louis heads explode about playing the game the right way.

Man that would be an amazing time. If there is anything better than a good Cubs team it will be a good Cubs team that insults the gentile sensibilities of those preachy coonts

Stanton.

I think I would take Rizzo over Stanton at this point.

Stanton has better pure power but I think Rizzo is a tougher out.

I'd rather Rizzo take tough AB's in the playoffs over Stanton.

Don't forget about Castro who takes disrespectful home run trots or something.

Harper had tons of great things to say during the series at Wrigley last week.

Great stuff about Cubs management, Wrigley, and Bryant. Plus caught around town in Blackhawks attire.

None of it probably matters and he will go to the highest bidder but I'm going to just keep dreaming he is coming here..

I think we should bring Zambrano back as our last reliever out of the pen just to blowup on umpire and attack Cardinals players.

Plus how much worse can he be than that Schlitter guy we pitched this year.

Can you believe that Z only turned 34 two days ago?

I met him at Spring Training this year. He was cruising around the different facilities at Sloan in a golf cart like he was Ted Williams on Yawkey Way.

Seemed super happy and was signing tons of autographs, talking to all the fans.

I miss the Z. I remember when we first brought him up (I think 02), pretty sure he was in the bullpen throwing 100mph. I think he was only 19 or so back then also. Didn't it come out Juan Cruz was two years older than the Cubs thought and Z was actually a year younger?
