Shout out to James Pugliese (pug-lee-see), who has a 22/5 K/BB, 1.04 ERA, and a 2.12 FIP so far. Seems like he's earned a shot at starting again. It's not like he was bad at Boise.

Yeah, would be interesting to give him a shot. Although Kane rotation seems kinda full. Nobody compelling it at Daytona, though.

As long as hitting home runs or taking walks or generally not making outs aren't things we expect from baseball players, Almora will be fine.

Barely 20 years old.

20-year-olds are allowed to hit home runs and take walks. I haven't read the minor-league rulebook cover to cover, but I'm almost positive that would have been mentioned before if there were some sort of blanket ban.

They're also allowed to struggle for a couple of months in a tough league for hitters. And I'm not sure but I'd guess he's one of the younger players there.

That's without even bringing up whatever effect the health situation with his father had on him.

EDIT - Looks like Almora is the 18th youngest player in all of high A. 7th youngest in the FSL.

Almora's two biggest strengths are his hit tool and his defense. He's never gonna be a big power guy so I don't see why you're so upset he's not hitting home runs when he only had 5 of them in 400+ previous AB's. The patience is something he's needed to work on since day one, it's not gonna happen overnight. I'm more concerned about his average, but his BABIP is down to .282 this season. His BABIP at every stop in the minors has been really good (.345 in 417 AB's. .343 in 496 AB's if you count the AFL) so he may be getting pinched a little. So yeah...

A) The fact that he is not going to be a power guy does not mean you cannot be concerned about his lack of power. It's just another knock against his chances to succeed.

B) He's in his third season of professional baseball, this isn't an overnight situation.

That's a silly way to frame the argument. The fact that it isn't considered one of his strengths doesn't mean you can wave off a lack of power like it's not a problem.

As for that, many say he's got the frame to add strength and eventually hit for a bit more power and he's still pretty young so he has some developing to do in that area.

I'm kind of hoping on him being like a 15 HR guy ultimately.

To be fair, I sort of brought him up with the Parks tweet.

I see him as a 15 home run guy, too, but like you said he's in a tough hitters league, he's going through some [expletive] with his family, and he's still extremely young for his level. I understand his lack of power is concerning, but I feel like once he begins to turn his fortunes around with his overall hitting the power will come naturally.

A) The fact that he is not going to be a power guy does not mean you cannot be concerned about his lack of power. It's just another knock against his chances to succeed.

B) He's in his third season of professional baseball, this isn't an overnight situation.

A) I understand the concern for the power, but like I said I think it's just a general drop in his overall hitting production that, if it turns around to his capable abilities, will rectify itself to the point where it becomes more palatable.

B) I'll admit the walks are very concerning. That said, three years in professional ball, sure, but he still only has a little under one year of professional PA's.
