what witch hunt? poor tom being poor tom more like it. a conservative slum lord behaving like one.

I was one of the first Ricketts haters here. All I meant by witch hunt is GW spends every article around finding new ways to bring up Ricketts cheapness. Maybe witch hunt was the wrong wording, since its true.

Maybe you just notice the articles where he points it out.

Damn, I thought TT used to do ownership approval polls too, but I guess it was just FO and Manager. Kyle did one in March 2013 (Link), and I did not expect it to be as favorable as it was. This was right after the one offseason we kinda tried, so I guess that would skew things.

Ricketts sucks, but it's not a witch hunt when it's just reporting on something that countless business are doing because they are run by scum bog bastards.

Yeah, it's a scumbag move, but not all that shocking that an ownership group who comes from a corporate background is implementing policies you are seeing major corporations do all the time with playing games to skirt rules on healthcare and other things.

I'd rather not see politics in my baseball threads. Because you know I'm sure there's no cooperate liberals dodging paying for health insurance. What a load of [expletive]. I can't even afford health insurance for my family now thanks to liberals completely destroying healthcare in this country.

Nobody called the Ricketts out for being conservative.

He's making the association that the reason for the mishap with the tarp on Monday is directly related to that hours thing, and outright implies it would have been avoided had those offseason changes not happened. That's extremely questionable at best and outright nonsense at worst. 'Witch hunt' implies a pattern, and while Wittenmyer loves trying to call out ownership I wouldn't use that term, but that article was pretty much garbage.

I disagree; most people here are probably dealing with firsthand (or have at least witnessed) how cuts like that have impacted workforces. Yes, saying that Tarpgate happened specifically because of it is stretching, but most of the article is about the bigger issue of how the staff has been impacted all season long by these changes, and yes, it likely is impacted how the place is maintained.

I'm no Vinestal, but that's an extremely flimsy pretext for something that shows up in the Sports section.

Eh, Sulley called him a conservative slumlord, but Vinestal did bring out my favorite tactic, "Keep politics out of the baseball talk!!!, BUT (politics talk)"

I'm not saying where the discussion should take place; if you want to move it to the politics thread, fine, nobody is going to complain. I agree, the timing of the article is a stretch since it's further blowing up something that could have happened even if they were still operating at previous levels, but ultimately it IS something that the owners of the team decided to do that will and has impacted the organization and the news of it was just brought to our attention. I'm not following TT, Wittenmeyer gets word shortly after an embarrassing inability to keep the field dry that the staff in charge of it has seen cutbacks so the Cubs won't have to pay for their health insurance. What's flimsy about it?

Because manpower had nothing to do with the inability to keep the field dry.

Didn't the field end up soaked because of the screw-ups and the tarps not being put out properly and in time? Doesn't seem a stretch to say that that occurred due to being shortstaffed. You also have businesses having less time to train new people properly because of situations like this.

I thought I heard it was because it was rolled up improperly, which would seem pretty easy to connect to a short staffed group rolling it up. Beyond that, havin a full staff could've rectified the situation far more quickly than what they had out there
