Neil Ramirez sent down, Blake Parker called up.

That's ... odd?

I guess they could be resting him, or gaming service time (but I think Ramirez is OK on that) or stretching him out for some starts?

Please be stretching him out to start.

Sharma indicated on Twitter that it appears to be a rest thing.

I'd love that, but it seems an odd time of the year for that.

It is. It's also odd to say that he needs a "breather" when he's on pace for like 50 IP and has a total of 3 in the last two weeks.

The cynical interpretation might be that he was actually effective, and we can't have that.

Nah, they wouldn't screw with someone who has a future with the team like that. I'm worried he's injured.

Didn't they hold Rizzo down for months when he was more than ready at AAA?

He's been injury-prone, which helps the cause a bit. Honestly, it's probably a bit easier to tank now than at the end of the year. Less eyes on it anyway.

He may need rest, if so, give it to him. As for starting? No. Just no.

Wonder if he's been having some reoccurring arm/shoulder issues that doesn't seem to be resolving itself with limited appearances over the past couple of weeks. The "rest" thing just doesn't seem right.

That's different than sending someone down after dominating in the majors. Surly the FO would like another top 5 pick, but they aren't going to do that at the expense of toying with the good young players already on the roster. He either is just tired or, I worry, more injured than they are letting on.

They needed an arm for today, used Ramirez yesterday. Didn't want to use him today. Logical move on multiple fronts.

Kinda apples and oranges with your franchise player and a late-inning reliever, no?

Kaplan says he spoke with Ramirez and confirmed it's for rest.

"We have determined that keeping our group of youngsters healthy, performing well, and still giving ourselves the optimum shot at losing the rest of the year is our best course of action. If a player misses a few games, it's to gain any adavantage possible in obtaining the overall top pick next season."

The standard put forth was "someone who has a future with the team."

If it is a health issue (even if for just resting a tired arm) I am surprised there aren't MLBPA issues with optioning a guy to AAA instead of putting him on the DL.

I could see if he was going to be in the Minor Leagues for 15 days saying he should be put on the DL but maybe they plan on keeping him down for a week to rest therefore no reason to put him on the DL.

A player can be on optional assignment for some period of time without losing any MLB service time.

Haha, I know there are a lot of examples like this out there on the internet, but the reddit people are usually fairly rational.
