http://totalfratmove.com/according-to-teammates-greg-maddux-was-basically-that-sick-bastard-in-your-fraternity-who-plays-horrific-pranks/

I feel like this is a repost but I'm not positive. Nevertheless, this is amazing:

Story about Greg Maddux, keep me anonymous – when he signed late in his career with the padres he wasn’t working out or running as much.. Because he’s [expletive] Greg Maddux – the GM told him to set a better example for the younger guys and to get into atleast decent shape to pitch. The next day he beat everyone to the ballpark early in the morning. He took a treadmill and moved it right behind the doors to enter the facility. He started running on it fully naked – junk flying everywhere telling everyone who came in, including people who worked at the spring training complex he was trying to get in better shape per the big boys upstairs.

Just now developed an urge to buy a Rizzo Italy jersey from the WBC. Two are on eBay in XXL and that's it.

Ken Rosenthal says the Cubs should trade for David Price:

The moment the Cubs hired Derek Johnson as their minor-league pitching coordinator in Oct. 2012, many in the industry speculated that it was their first move toward eventually landing Rays left-hander David Price.

Johnson, you see, was Price's pitching coach at Vanderbilt. And while the Cubs wanted Johnson on his own merits, his connection to Price could not have hurt, even though the pitcher was not available at that time.

Oh, and one other thing: When Price said at the All-Star Game that Chicago "would be the coolest city to win a championship in right now," he wasn't referring to the White Sox.

Yes, the Cubs would need to pay dearly to make it happen, ponying up prospects, then probably $180 million-plus. Teams these days are reluctant to double down in such fashion; the Cubs know that they can buy Max Scherzer or Jon Lester this offseason, and the only player they would lose is a high draft pick.

Still, to get Scherzer or Lester, the Cubs would need to outbid the Yankees and heaven knows which other clubs. Granted, there is no assurance that the Cubs could lock up Price if they acquired him. But they at least would get the rest of this season and the next to sell him on the idea.

I think we will trade for Price. Next year at the deadline, after Seattle trades for him now and isn't in contention next year at the deadline. And get him without having to give up one of our elite guys.

even though the cubs have acknowledged they have money to spend in the offseason, I can already see all the momentum going towards the Cubs making Lester their FA centerpiece and then getting outbid from a team like the Yankees that ridiculously overpays.

Agreed.

It makes me sick even thinking about trading our prospects for David Price and then paying him huge money. The only thing that makes me feel better is that Theo and Jed are smart men and won't do something like that.

I'm not sure I'd even do that for Kershaw.

A lot of people would disagree with you, but when you see him making 30 million next season, then 32, 33, 33, 32 and 33 in each of the following five seasons and you weigh in that he probably will miss one of those years with Tommy John, I wouldn't do it either.

I will admit that since most of our top guys legitimately are on the cusp of the majors, I just want to ride with all of them and see what happens. I realize that might not be wise since some will bust, but I just don't want to give up any of them and all their years of control. Not this first wave, at least.

Once we are good again and we have some top prospects still in the minors, I'll be more for trading some to make us even stronger.

2-10 with a -38 run differential since the trade

2-11, now.

In their seven combined starts since the trade, Jackson, Wood, and Villanueva have just been abysmal... 33.2 IP, 35 ER, no quality starts, good for a 9.36 ERA.

It's the "Skip Bayless" playbook for sports writing, or something. He hears a quote in the newspaper where another player mentions Chicago and then writes the obligatory "trade for him" piece. I feel like I've seen this same story a hundred times.

I really want Scherzer.

Yes, if there's one guy to overpay for, it's him.

Lester and Scherzer aren't going to happen, and I'm increasingly convinced they shouldn't. If you want to splurge, do it on someone young like Maeda, otherwise play with 1-2 year deals that don't require the near impossible task of finding the unicorn pitcher that can maintain performance for 3 years post-FA.

Not saying it's who I want, but I think it they go after one of these guys, it's probably going to be Lester.

I'm fine with Lester, and maybe there's something to the Theo/Jed/Jason connection, but Scherzer is really awesome and I wants him.

I think there's a near 0% chance Scherzer happens. And if he gets a 5-7 year contract with an AAV ~25-27MM, I think that's probably a good thing. I don't think Lester is all that likely either, but moreso than Scherzer, because Scherzer is going to get a lot more money.

I think they'll go after Jusin Masterson rather than the top tier of free agent pitchers. His price tag should fall after the season he's had, he has ties to Theo and Jed and his profile seems to fit what Bosio likes to work with.
