I think we need a random Cubs meltdown thread. Whenever you're feeling especially down about anything that has to do with the Cubs you input your meltdown in the meltdown thread. It would consolidate the meltdowns for future pleasure/misery.

To clarify earlier tweet, Samardzija is only player in last 100 yrs to open year with 5 straight apps of 7+ IP & 2 ER or fewer without a win

Oh shut up Garza, you jerkface.

God, its really depressing to look back at 2009 and 2010.

Then remember how bad we ended up (71 wins), but look at the talent we had.

You start to realize how far we have to go to put that kind of talent on the field again.

CV to the pen and Schlitter sent down, I assume.

Wow...I just noticed that after his initial rough outings, Wright has been pretty damn good.

CINCINNATI -- Jake Arrieta's return to the Chicago Cubs' rotation can't come soon enough.

Manager Rick Renteria confirmed that Arrieta, who has been sidelined since spring training because of tightness in his right shoulder, will make his 2014 debut Wednesday night at Cincinnati, with Carlos Villanueva shifting to the bullpen.

"It’s nice to have him back," Renteria said Monday of Arrieta, who was 4-2 with a 3.66 ERA in nine starts in 2013 after coming to the Cubs in a trade from the Baltimore Orioles. "He’s still working his way back in terms of finally getting his feet back on a major league field and doing what he does."

The Cubs will make a corresponding move once Arrieta is activated.

I seriously cannot believe we're in a situation where a lede like this is even possible.

Anything that gets Villinueva out of the rotation is good news.

wtf happened to him anyway, he was so amazing at the start of last year.

Funny how players shouldn't be judged purely off april stats, eh?

No but 40 H in 19 IP is insane...he hasn't let up a hit an inning over the course of his career.

Arrieta likely bumped to the weekend due to tonight's rainout.

#Dodgers Dan Haren is 12-9 (1 SV) with 118⅔ IP, 2.96 ERA, 1.070 WHIP, 8.42 K/9, 0.83 HR/9, & .235/.274/.368 against over his last 21 games.

Psh, whatever. Matt Guerrier is so much better.

He has a record of 12-9 plus 1 save over his last 21 games?

this is a spectacularly dumb post

we didn't trade for him, and the Nats did...and they got a season of virtually replacement-level production and didn't offer him a QO- that's about where it ends; this season's performance is completely immaterial

Plus he is not 12-9 with one save over his last 21 games.

Maybe they mean his team's record is 12-9, maybe they're just wrong. The W-L record is by far the least important number there in any case.

that's nice, so Washington got a little bit of usefulness out of him after suffering through his first 15 starts of 6.15 ERA output, and the Dodgers have gotten a good month from him so far to reward their $13M investment
