Some Travis Wood stuff from North at PSD

Travis Wood, you are exciting me.

So K/9 rates start to stabilize around 70 batters. He's almost there. But the whiff %s on his cutter and slider have improved. Both those rates are well above average.

His cutter is moving about 2 inches more, and his slider is faster and the break is tighter.

If Travis Wood can continue these trends, the Cubs may have something. Watch for Wood as the year progresses.

Wood was great to start last season too, although the K/BB numbers have trended up. Don't have the granularity to see pitch level or contact rate stuff by month to see if he's maybe just a fast starter.

Twin Anchors or Smoque? Speaking only food-wise obviously.

I think Smoque wins by default just because Twin Anchors only has, like, 5 things on their menu and the ribs are really the only thing they do beyond just being "serviceable." Great bar, though. Too bad they close so early.

Well, thanks to this thread I stopped by BCB for the first time in forever. Here is a dramatic recreation of how it went:

Yeah, I'd tend to agree. Smoque is so [expletive] delicious.

Who cares about variety, I'd ratter eat town anchors ribs than anything on smoque's menu. (Not to say smoque is bad)

Robinson's is kinda right around the corner on Armitage and man, their ribs/wings are pretty [expletive] tasty. The sauce is incredible.

[expletive] yeah, those corn muffins are great. Though last time I went they had switched to regular fries, and man, they used to rock the seasoned curly fries.

Question for you stats wizzes! If Baez had gone north with the cubs to start the season and played shortstop (moving Castro to 2nd) and performed at a 2001 Barry Bonds level offensively, would this year's Cubs team probably make the playoffs?

Same chance as Ben Wallace making the HOF.

Come on dawg. Its an honest question.

I honestly didn't know that. Without looking too deeply into things, if we were projected for 72 wins and Baez put up a 12 WAR season, we'd likely be an 85-86 win team once you add another win or 2 for good Castro over Barney/Bonifacio.

So probably, cause at that point you'd have to think they would buy at the deadline and they'd be adding Bryant.

Why would you set this exercise back by not having had Castro at SS?

At some point maybe a 3rd party might step in and just say enough. Like a Rickett's uncle or something. Or potentially Joe might say enough to his jackass kids for destroying the family name. Like he will hear somebody say "leave me out rickettsed in the middle of nowhere" and decide to assume control of the team fire theo and build a winner.

You realize Joe Ricketts isn't even a sports fan, right? If you think he gives a flying [expletive] what people think of his name, you're dead wrong. He cares about his bottom line. As do the vast majority of major sports franchise owners.

First when anyone puts up Bonds' steroid numbers this question would be legit.

2nd, we have Rizzo throwing up a .920 Ops, Lake over .800, Castro and Bonifacio hitting well, and we aren't close as an offense.

Another bat would help, but Baez won't put up Bonds numbers, and even if he puts up "Baez minor league like" numbers, we might make not make it to .500

Now when Bryant and Baez come up we might have something to talk about.

except that we still have our bullpen

All teams have players that are leaders that own the clubhouse - whether it be based on the on-field performance (ie. Kerry Wood) or "veteran leadership". Who's the 2014 Cubs team leaders(s) in the clubhouse?

I'd like to say Shark, but he's looking to get traded and all the other players know it. Ideally, it would be Castro/Rizzo but they haven't had the long sustaining success to take the mantle. Sweeney or Schierholtz?

My point is this - its obvious they glaring have on-field issues already, but I'm curious to know what goes on behind closed doors. Whose team is this in the clubhouse? Who's the leader? Or is this just BS?
