DFA Russell or send down Schlitter seems clear now.

Deckhairs, Titanic, etc. Seems like anyone we put in the pen is going to suck anyway.

That said, I agree, get rid of either or both.

Call up either Parker or Rosscup.

Or both for all I care. Russell hasn't been good for 2 years now and Schlitter is a career minors guy IMO.

Parker or Rosscup could be career minors guys as well but might as well find out.

Russell isn't getting DFAd after 9 games.

Well it's a year plus 9 games but you're still probably right. It's just that Russell's just not very good anymore. And we have Rosscup just sitting there ready to go, almost 26 yrs old.

Well 9 games after they tendered him a contract when they could've let him go for free.

I guess the question is, when was he ever really that good?

His xFIP his rookie year was 4.23. That's his career best.

Career 232/.267/.401 line vs lefties, including a .183/.221/.322 last year.

he was darn good last year until his arm fell off because he had to pitch everyday because we had no one else. He had a sub1.00 era through may, and was still hanging in the mid 2's(2.66) in mid august before ballooning the last month. He was all we had out there for quite a while last year.

I don't get some of you guys. I mean you were all fired up about getting Wright (with his career4.40 era), when even last year=which was his best year, he was worst than Russell was even after his drop.

I said it last year also, but there is a lot of unknown with our bullpen. It really shouldn't shock anyone that they're bad. There is a reason that they were all basically cut lose from other teams.

I have hope for Strop, I think that Veras can be a stop gap and maybe trade bait for 1 year but he is not a closer on a good team.

I worry Russell is done, and I have no faith in Wright.

I think we are set for another roller(rolley?) coaster ride this season.

On the other hand must of those guys won't be here lone, and Wood looked good, Rizzo and Castro also played well.

I have to say it is fun to watch Castro play this way again!

Are there any decent FA OF next year who wouldn't command huge money we could plug in to pair up with what's going to be our outrageously awesome offensive IF next year to make up a good offense overall?

Someone like a Victorino to the Red Sox I guess is what I have in mind.

Haha, what a weird comment about the bullpen.

There's not really a guy with Victorino's pre-BoSox track record, but there are several interesting names that could potentially fill that role depending on how the remaining 150 games play out.

Rasmus

Sizemore

Melky

Markakis

Denorfia

I don't really have a great logical reason for this, but I feel like Markakis is the kinda guy who ends up providing that Victorino-esque surplus value. He's always had great plate discipline and can hit for average, get him in a new organization that isn't so old-school philosophically and also doesn't force him to play 160 games a year, and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him be a 3-4 win guy for several years.

Rasmus will be an interesting case study too. He's had a couple big years, the age is right, and he has the tools and some peripherals, but he's also had multiple below average years, plus he's a moron.

Once you get past Rizzo, Castro, Shark, Wood, and possibly Castillo and Hammel, the whole roster is basically filler until we can afford better players or the kids come up.

You wonder why people give you a hard time when you post stuff like this? Come on, Jackson is a good player, the entire pen outside of Wright and Russell have pretty high upsides, and Lake and Olt have solid potential. It's just moronic to make posts like this that have zero basis in reality.

Problem is if Markakis bounces back to his numbers previous to last year, I'd imagine Baltimore picks up his option at a 15.5M expense.

Jackson is a guy that nobody wanted for more than one year at a time. He is what he is - an inning-eating BOR starter. Lake and Olt are still big question marks. I think Lake has a future as a solid reserve player. As for the bullpen, there are a few guys (Rondon, Grimm, Strop) that are decent and will be part of the team going forward. How many of these guys would be filling important, starting roles on a good team? If we are a good team (2016?), how many players currently on our roster will playing important roles (outside of Rizzo, Castro, Wood, Castillo, and Shark/players obtained for Shark)?
