I think we all knew they were going to be absolutely terrible and even their 2-11 record isn't that surprising. However, what I didn't realize, until today, is that through 13 games they have scored a total of 23 runs or an average of 1.77 runs per game. For comparison, even the Cubs are averaging 3.5 runs per game. 1.77 runs per game also puts them on pace for 287 runs on the year. Obviously it's a small sample size, but that's absolutely brutal baseball.

I probably wouldn't go. But then again, I wouldn't complain about how the team is run after not going, even during playoff runs.

Those fans are terrible, and deserve nothing. The fact that the Marlins have World Series championships is a travesty. What's happening now is lovely, delicious justice and it needs to continue.

Cracks me up that they are already 10 1/2 games out of first place.

I think it's the curse of whatever they call that monstrocity that goes off for homeruns.

I think that thing is a giant tumor growing out of Lorias black soul.

I didn't know anyone other than Stanton and Coghlan. Maybe Ruggiano?

Is it possible the Marlins don't win 50 games?

Yeah, Solano, Mahoney, Brantly, Valaika, and Sanabia might as well be video game generated names to me.

The Marlins, by comparison, have a team OPS+ of 50. Fifty.

This begs the question, has a team ever gone an entire season with an adjusted OPS just half of the league average? The answer is no. In the modern era (since 1900) the worst team OPS was 70 by the 1901 and 1909 Boston Braves (or Beanaters and Doves, as they were known in those seasons, respectively) and just ten teams failed to post an adjusted OPS at least three-quarters of league average:

Worst team OPS+ in the modern era:

70 - 1901 Beanaters, 1909 Doves

71 - 1910 White Sox, 1924 Braves

72 - 1902 Tigers, 1963 Colt .45s

74 - 1905 Beaneaters, 1938 Braves, 1940 Phillies, 1964 Colt .45s

Even the 1899 Cleveland Spiders posted a 74 OPS+ (what made that team historically awful was pitching -- they had a 58 ERA+).

Could the Marlins join or even top the above list? I don't think it's out of the question. The worst team OPS+ of the current decade was the Mariners' 76 in 2010, so that proves that a performance approaching the ten-worst in modern history is certainly possible, and the Mariners were reportedly trying to win in 2010.

Worst part is that Loria could care less, he's making money and lots of it. When he sells the team, he'll make even more. Life is not fair.

How much money is he making from the 300 fans/game he's selling tickets to?

He'd make money drawing 0 fans thanks to revenue sharing and media contracts.

He runs his team with some of the lowest, if not the lowest, expenses in baseball (even with the new stadium since the city/state paid for most of it). He does have low revenues (from ticket sales) but he annually gets one of the highest cuts of revenue sharing from the top teams. Also I don't know what their TV deal is, but Miami is like the 7th largest metro area in the US, so I'm sure he has an okay one in place. I'd venture to guess Loria runs one of the highest margin teams in baseball.

Nolasco was scheduled to go in the first game, but was notified by phone at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday -- only 2 1/2 hours before game time -- that there had been a change of plans. Fernandez would go in the first games while Nolasco would have to wait for the later game.

Manager Mike Redmond said the organization wanted the inexperienced Fernandez, 20, pitching during the warmer daylight hours and the more seasoned Nolasco pitching at night when it was expected to be even colder.

"When we saw the sun shining (Tuesday morning following snowfall overnight), it just made sense to push Fernandez up to start game one, a little bit warmer," Redmond said. "Ricky's a little bit more accustomed to throwing in colder temperatures."

Multiple sources said the decision was made by higher-ups in the organization, however, and did not sit well with Redmond, pitching coach Chuck Hernandez and Nolasco, who were all caught off guard by the announcement.

For doubleheaders, it is normal protocol to allow the pitcher with the most seniority to have his choice of games. Nolasco is the team's all-time wins leader and its opening day starter. Fernandez had made only three big-league starts going in to Tuesday. Furthermore, Nolasco's name was on the lineup card Tuesday morning when players began showing up at the ballpark.

"Not a smart move," said a member of the Marlins' uniformed contingent. "It's a slap in the face to Ricky."

After notching his first win of the season, it was clear Nolasco was biting his tongue.

"I'm not going to talk about that situation," Nolasco said following only the Marlins' fifth win of the season. "Still go to go out there and pitch, happy or not, whatever the situation is. You got to go out there and do my job. It wasn't fun, but just grinded it out."

Asked if he was unhappy about the late change, Nolasco replied: "No comment."

I'm assuming that SS is Nick Green? Ruggiano I only know because of fantasy last year.

Nick Green? As in Nick Green? He was Brent Lillibridge before Brent Lillibridge was Brent Lillibridge.

But at as awful as they are, they have 2 guys in Stanton and Fernandez, who if they were aggressively shopped could likely bring back an entire starting lineup of players not put together by the ex-showgirl widow of their former owner in an attempt to move the team to. Er. Miami.

Chris Valaika was a decent prospect coming up with Cincinnati.
