Nice to play poorly for most of a game and still win by 12 over a top 100 team on the road.

I think that's the 4th PSU game I've seen this season, and I have no idea how they ever keep games close or win. They play some of the ugliest basketball I've ever seen.

If Marshall had stuck around, they'd be decent. The Big Ten really has no gimmies.

Yep. They make so many ugly buckets that having another scorer would make them scary.

So it's assumed Vonleh is gone? I figured as much but hadn't heard anything regarding it. He's a beast, I would love him on the Bulls but they apparently want to win games and won't pick high enough to snag him.

As long as he is projected in the draft lottery, I tend to believe he is gone. Especially since he does not get the ball nearly as much as he should in Indiana's offense. Staying at IU for another season isn't going to that much for his development, may as well go pro and start working with a professional coaching staff sooner.

The grumbling about Crean is definitely becoming a thing. It isn't just on the message boards. But like Exile said, his buyout is through the roof for at least 4 years or so. The only way he is losing his job anytime soon is if the big money donors get fed up enough to cough up the buyout cash.

illini make a quick comeback and then the refs ignore the blatant walk on smith so they can call a foul on the illini. no other team is as maligned by the referees as the illini. they get no calls and weren't even in the bonus tonight, yet again, despite having a team full of guys that dribble-drive on every possession. magically, they put jumpshooting teams on the line in the double bonus while the illini don't shoot any [expletive] free throws ever. [expletive] the efs, [expletive] them, they are the scum of the [expletive] earth, the lowest for of [expletive] life. worse than cuban-american bourgeois

Kenpom now predicts Illinois to finish last in the league at 4-14 with the flab five 8 games ahead of them.

Not surprising. I thought we'd fall somewhere between 6-12 and 8-10 (best case). Lost a couple we shouldn't have, and here we are. This was never going to be a good year.

That said, enjoy having the Illini to kick around while it lasts.

The Big Ten is so weird this year. Home losses by Michigan and Michigan State (to NEBRASKA?!) puts Iowa and to a lesser extent Wisconsin back in the Big Ten title race.

With 2 wins this week, Iowa is assured a tie for 2nd next Sunday and could be tied for 1st in the loss column if MSU loses at Purdue but beats Michigan. If they lose both, they're in 5th.

We could realistically win a co-championship right now. Still would be very difficult to do and I'm not getting my hopes up for it but still, it's February and I'm considering the possibility that Iowa wins a Big Ten championship and that's awesome.

The refs have learned that Illini fans are the whiniest bitches on earth and have (correctly) decided that you don't deserve to win

I think it's fairly realistic. You have MSU losing at a neutral site against Georgetown and at home against 1-9 on the road Nebraska. You have UM giving IU one of its only 2 wins in their last 8 and getting blown out against you guys and at home against wisky. I don't think it would be very difficult for Iowa to claim a share of the conference at this point.

I think they have to win out to do it. That means beating Wisconsin at home (not difficult but we just lost to Ohio State at home and they probably aren't as good as Wisconsin), beating Minnesota and Indiana on the road (not extremely tough but won't be easy) and then winning at Michigan State (haven't done that in 20 years and they're good) it's doable but it would take a pretty good stretch of play.

He thinks the universe is out to get him and everything he loves. He needs no reason because he's clinically insane.

What's that Nirvana lyric?

But with respect, everybody gets to see the games, the Illini simply don't get calls. They aren't a good team but they aren't a last place team.

I often have wondered if Illinois fans were really that whiny or was it just something I noticed more with them more because I live close to Champaign. Outside of Michigan I have never lived anywhere else long enough to get a feel for the fan base. I assume every fan base has its whiny element of course, but it really does seem ingrained in a lot Illinois fans.

I really think all teams have equally whiny cores to their fan bases. It's just the nature of the beast; fans are invariably predisposed to whine about outside forces influencing their team's failures as opposed to accepting that their team may not be great or have been "the better team" on a given day.

But being in the middle of a fanbase's home, especially, if it's not a team you're a fan of, makes this seem more pronounced. I grew up about 15 minutes outside of Iowa City, and part of me will always feel that Iowa Hawkeyes fans are the whiniest, most self-deluded fans on the planet (outside of Cardinals fans, of course). But I suspect I would feel the same about other non-Illinois schools had I lived in the epicenter of their fandoms.
