Pierce Johnson: 4 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 5-2 GO-FO.

Jeimer Candelario made another nice defensive play to start a double play. His profile is so much more intriguing if there is no doubt he can stick at third base.

Yeah, I saw 6 hits and a 5-2 GO-FO so I would guess maybe a few of those hits were just softer ground balls that were hit in the right spot/guys with ML range would get to. Good to see that GO/FO ratio though Edited by Cubswin11

Rock Shoulders is on [expletive] fire.

Note on Johnson from Arguello:

Thing about Johnson's outing. 6 hits but only 2 hit hard and both plays should have been made.

So who is not making the plays? Raisin has been suggesting that Candelario is looking much better at 3B and is showing some good range. Toonster has been touting Marco as a serious big-league SS defensive talent. Amaya isn't Ryne Sandberg, but I've heard the Cubs like his defense.

Are these guys much worse than we've been led to believe? Or are Vogelbach and the outfielders at fault? Or is it just coincidence, good fielders miss plays sometimes, especially when they're 19 or 20?

IN any event, good to hear positive feedback on Johnson.

I noticed Tim Saunders is playing CF tonight. I understand he's blocked at SS by Baez, but have they given up on him as a SS/IF? Or are they playing him all over the place?

This is his first game in CF. He's played three games at 3B and one at 2B.

Thanks. I like that, his future is likely as a utility guy, might as well start making him play different positions now. I'm interested to see how he does this year and how he performs offensively when his BABIP normalizes.

They're young. They are going to lose focus/miss plays they should make and will make eventually. Not a big deal. You can see it with Castro still in the majors.

Soler BB.

*swoon*. No. 1 prospect in the system by the end of the year.

I can see that scenario playing out.

Hey now, I predicted that about a month ago.

I can definitely see the writers/scouts who value proximity/nearest impact to the majors being higher on Soler than Baez after the year even if Baez continues developing in a positive trend.

If Baez has a positive year I can't see him getting passed, based just upon position.
