WTH is going on here.

Just homework. Nick Faleris mentioned Nola to us at 4 with a 750-1M discount seems appealing. As the last to get on neverdraftpitchersearlyville, I like it too.

Some of it is due diligence but teams at the top clearly aren't very comfortable with any of the top prospects besides Aiken.

Yeah, I'm really thinking Kolek could drop out if the top 5. Rodon's shoulder/excessive workload could easily scare teams too.

Astros-Aiken

Marlins-Jackson

White Sox-Freeland

That'd be some [expletive].

-750K is roughly 5th pick money. -1M is roughly 6th pick money. I was expecting a bigger discount. I wonder what kind of underslot they're looking at with Pentecost.

If its mid 1st type money, that's what I'd be looking for. But Kiley seems to think there's becoming a legit chance he goes top 10. Personally, I'd go Nola, if its him at a mill savings versus Pentecost at, say 1.5 or so. I've got to think Schwarber and Conforto are in this type of conversation too.

Ok, I'm a bit more interested if he's doing this around pitch 110.

@aaronfitt: Aaron Nola still pounding 93-94 in the 8th inning. I mean, what more do you want? Plenty firm, and he holds it. #mlbdraft #lsubaseball

Still want a hitter, of course.

And.....I'm still on the island alone......

Jim Callis[/url]"]Where would Rancho Bernardo High (San Diego) catcher/outfielder Alex Jackson, Olympia High (Orlando, Fla.) shortstop Nick Gordon and Oregon State outfielder Michael Conforto have ranked in the 2013 Draft?

-- Eric N., Portland, Ore.

As a starting point, here's a sneak peek at where those guys will sit when we reshuffle our Draft Prospects list and expand from 100 to 200 next week: Jackson will be No. 4, Gordon No. 5 and Conforto No. 17.

I was with Baseball America last year, so I'll use their 2013 rankings as a point of comparison. Jackson is the best high school player available in 2014, but he would have fit behind Clint Frazier and Austin Meadows a year ago, which would have put him at No. 7.

Gordon is a little better than 2013's top shortstop, J.P. Crawford (No. 15). I could see him coming in at No. 9, which would have put him right in front of a pair of high schoolers, left-hander Trey Ball and catcher Reese McGuire.

Conforto is a better bet to hit than 2013's best college outfielder, Hunter Renfroe (No. 11), but Renfroe has him beat in the other four tools. Conforto would have checked in at No. 16, between Crawford and college third baseman Eric Jagielo.

Frazier has been really bad. Meadows hasn't played this year for some reason.

Hamstring injury.

I'm annoyed that the 4th pick in this draft turned out to be such a crappy spot to be in, but I'm ok with making the best of it like that.

Kind of how I feel, though I'm still holding out hope that either Rodon or Kolek drops out of the top 3 and we actually take them, concerns be damned.

Same. I feel like he was a borderline top 10 pick coming into the year, assumed he was sucking when I didn't hear much about him, and was pretty shocked when I looked up his numbers like a month ago and he's hitting .400.

What are the concerns with him? That he's more a line drive type hitter and doesn't have much HR power?

As a catcher, averagey defensively with a good arm?

Yeah, I think he's probably more of a 15 HR guy, but he's got a good eye, doesn't strike out alot, and should hit for good average. Hit well against good competition on the cape in the past. Pretty athletic and quick. I think the average defensively with an above average arm sounds about right, with people being more optimistic on him for future improvement due to his good athleticism. Bat speed looks good enough to me where I don't think he'll have a huge problem with higher velocity. I think people always ranked him a bit higher due to his plus athletic ability as opposed to his actual results, so teams are probably getting more excited now that the numbers are matching the profile.
