from that little post it seems really hard theo/jed/madison/mcleod can [expletive] this up

Even the best can [expletive] it up when it comes to pitching.

It's not like Rodon doesn't have a history of back and shoulder problems.

True, but would you rather draft Alex Jackson just because of TINSTAAPP?

It is pretty close. I really wish there would be a hitter worthy of #4.

That said, I'll be excited with Kolek/Aiken/Rodon/Hoffman, too.

@KendallRogersPG: #ECU planned to possibly throw RHP Jeff Hoffman in relief later this wk. Will hold off to be cautious, but should return next wknd #mlbdraft

@KendallRogersPG: More updates: @TCU_Baseball will see how LHP Brandon Finnegan looks throwing tomorrow. If not perfect, could take weekend off #mlbdraft #TCU

Callis' new draft board also has Aiken at the top: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/much-pitching-talent-in-this-years-mlb-draft?ymd=20140429&content_id=73636490&vkey=news_mlb

1. Aiken

2. Rodon

3. Kolek

4. Hoffman

5. Jackson

And Nola is up to 6. if Aiken, Rodon, and Kolek are off the board, I think I'd take Nola or Jackson over Hoffman. I just really like Nola.

Ugh, no. If you're going to draft a pitcher in the top 5, you want one with an ace ceiling.

While I agree with that, IF Nola is a guy who's willing to take 12th pick money at pick 4-And you can get a Touki type arm in the 2nd that falls solely due to bonus demands, I'd seriously consider it.

Hypothetical-would you prefer to get numbers 4 and 33 on your big board or 11 and 19?

@kileymcd: Heard early this month that Jacob Gatewood was on a hot streak & high-level PHI scouts were in heavy; still hearing it now, chance to go 7th

@jimcallisMLB: Only bat I see there is Jackson. Think they get one of top 4 arms @ColinWaters: If college P gone at 4, who do #Cubs go with? #DraftPipeline

Bradley, Bundy, zimmer, Urias, Edwards, walker, Taillion are all on the DL. Appel might be hurt, Sanchez has had arm issues, Giolito has too. I think I'm buying into TNSTAAPP.

I'd be interested in learning more about Alex Jackson, Nick Gordon, Gatewood. It's too bad Schwarber can't stay at catcher.

For me the difference between 4 and 11 is much larger than the difference between 19 and 33.

I don't think Nola is an 11. And I think he's more than a 4th starter. I think he's got legit #2 possibility. I don't think he's a #4 overall talent, but the problem with this draft is I don't think the other guys are either. At least the ones likely to fall to us. Only Rodon, Kolek, and Aiken are in that "tier above the rest" in my personal opinion. After they fall off the board, I am looking at the next group and thinking, Nola is the most appealing to me. I'm higher on Nola than most though.

I asked the question, assuming Hoffman is the guy left at 4. And I like him quite a bit, if he comes back from his two week layoff OK. He obviously has way more upside than Nola does, but Nola likely has the higher floor and outside of Rodon, may be the safest player in the draft to reach a ML rotation and stick.

At 19, I'm thinking of a HS SP with top 10 bonus demands. (Using Touki as example-Vandy commit and a top 20 talent that has upside))

It may literally be the only names that fit this actually-Hoffman and a guy like Sean Reid-Foley(solid top 30-40 talent) versus Nola and Touki.

I could probably be swayed here, due to the high floor of Nola, coupled with Hoffman's concerns. But maybe I'm letting injury affect my thinking too much here.

If injury sways you from picking him 4th, then he isn't the 4th best prospect. Take the next man up rather than settling for a pitcher who should go in the teens and might run into TINSTAAPP himself.
