Paul Sullivan being Paul Sullivan:

Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan

Cubs spokesman: Renovations "will provide important new resources" to build championship. Cubs then sign Scott Hairston to 2 year deal.

I think he thinks he's saying something witty and interesting.

He's such a [expletive] troll. [expletive] that little person (they don't Limey to be called midgets).

Somebody please tell me 'mineaswell' is a cute inside joke and not an actual attempt to communicate in English.

it was never cute. but yes, somebody actually thought it was an english communication once. the grandest wordsmith of all time at that.

I still think "cow-towing" was the best (but not a Bummism)

Was it the bum who used the phrase "gave (someone) a black guy" instead of "black eye"? That's got to be the best(worst) Bummism.

I don't know why anyone would think they are done adding. Still 3 weeks to go and Spring Training.

Looking at the lineup a RH 3B option is glaring, I would be interested to see if Vitters could fill that role sooner than later but beyond that... not an overwhelming lineup but solid.

VS. RHP - DeJesus, Castro, Rizzo, Soriano, Schierholtz, Stewart, Castillo, Barney

VS LHP - Sappelt, Barney, Castro, Rizzo, Soriano, Hairston, Castillo, Stewart (Possibly lead off Barney [expletive] Sappelt to 8).

Bench: Navarro, Scheirholtz/Hairston, Sappelt/DeJesus, Valbuena, ??????

Rotation: Garza, Samardjiza, Jackson, Baker, Feldman

BP: Fujikawa, Marmol, Camp, Russell, Wood, Bowden/Cabrera/One of the plethera of minor league invites,

Could be fun this year!

I dunno about that lineup, but that rotation should be pretty stout. And you're forgetting to put Villaneuva in there as well.

also Vizcaino, right?

Seems like he'll rehab in Iowa and may get promoted mid-year for few a starts before he reaches an imposed innings limit.

He will likely stay in Iowa long enough to push back is arbitration clock.

Probably makes most sense to start him in AAA so we can see if he can make it as a starter and it allows him to be pitching on scheduled days and also build up his arm strength along with, what Tim said, pushing back his arbitration clock.

Unless there's a hole opening up at just the right time, I'm guessing Vizcaino spends the whole season at AAA.

If he pitches well enough, they'll find a spot for him.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, the agreement is 2/$5 with an additional $1M possible in incentives.

Deal looks even better now!

Fantastic deal.

2012 Schierholtz 126 wRC+ against righties, 2012 Hairston 135 wRC+ against lefties. That's a nice RF platoon for a combined ~$5 million

If you could ever get a platoon to work out that way, sure.

what was our actual combined CF production with the edmonds/reed platoon in 08?

seems like that was just about a best case scenario.

Cubs CF in 2008: .290/.374/.484, 3rd best OPS in MLB for CF, #1 OBP
