How did we all watch sports before HD?

From about 1999-2007 I had an "HD compatible" television that never saw an HD signal. I bought the TV I have now the day before the Bears Super Bowl game and can barely remember what it looked like before.

I feel like there's a segment of the Bears fan base, and the media, that wants the Bears to go in a different direction at QB after this season, with Cutler being a free agent. And thus, the more we poke, and critique his every mistake, the more apt to convince others (and the Bears!) that we need to go a different way. Of course, the fact that we have a dozen or so RFA's after this season, and that we have no better options than Jay lined up to take over at the QB position more or less tells me that it's not a matter of "if" Cutler comes back, but for how long and for how much.

That's an incredible leap if that's directed at me. Look at the past Bears threads on this site and you will find no bigger Jay apologist than me. All I'm saying is that I'd like to see him make better decisions now that he (hopefully) has a better OLine , skill players, and coaching staff. In the past I never faulted Jay because he was often running for his life, throwing to third-rate receivers, and was "supported" by a crappy coaching staff. Things have changed some, so my expectations are higher.

That said, I agree that - unless we wind up with an early 1st Round pick (Bridgewater? Boyd?) - there isn't anyone who can step in.

I guess the hope is that Trestman is the kind of coach who can help identify and develop QB talent -- something the Bears really haven't had.

I still think the strong likelihood is when Cutler leaves, it's another period of crappy QBs. Because of that, I'd rather keep Jay around for as long as he's able to perform at a high level. And I still believe he performs at a high level, INTs and all.

Until it becomes some kind of included default in a standard cable package I am SD for life. No DVR, too.

As long as you are signed up for autopay and paperless billing, HD is free on both directv and dish.

Bad experiences with satellite both here and in VA; would prefer not to go back.

Huh. I'm completely opposite. There's not much that would ever get me to go back to cable. I'm sticking with Directv till going fully online is more feasible for me.

Just wondering, what is the hold up on switching? I don't know a lot other than cable so I'm always interested to hear other options.

Comprehensive access to sports is pretty much the last holdout.

Exactly. Everything else I can watch delayed and be fine with. So long as I can avoid N&G's spoilers.

Hey, good to know! Thanks.

I'm just asking if you're using it/have it set up (and have an HDTV) or not

Unless it came with my TV or cable setup, then no.

What kind of TV do you have?

Just a cheap Vizio flatscreen. No idea of the model or type.

So then as long as it's not over 7 or 8 years old, it should have an HD tuner built in and all you really need to do is hook it up to an antenna. Wherever you live might have one on the roof from the old days (this WILL work for HD, you don't need some special "HD" antenna, as I used to hook my TV up to a 30 year old antenna on my parents' house to get HD before DirecTV provided it) or a set top antenna.

Doesn't seem that you care that much but I figured I'd mention it I guess.

Nah, I appreciate the pointers; I think there is an old antenna still hooked up on my building, so since my TV is only a couple years old I'll see if I can get it hooked up when I get home. Thanks.

Sometimes; I think it just doesn't bother me as much because I'm watching most things in SD. Football games are pretty much the only ones where I find myself thinking, "yeah, HD would make this a LOT better." I'm pretty sure Fox doesn't give a [expletive] about their SD feed because it's easily the worst.
