Maybe Emery & crew know what they're doing, I don't know. I still think it's a terrible value pick, and it sure looks to me like they got desperate when the run on OL took place earlier in the round.

It would seem that way but I don't think that's the case just based on Emery's comments. He had this guy targeted from the start.

Which makes Emery all the more stupid

Doesn't really matter what the reality was behind closed doors -- I'd expect any GM to come out and say "he was our guy from the beginning."

I'm not taking his statement as-is. It's PR.

I'm not so sure. He's been pretty open and forthright during his time as GM, almost to the point of never shutting up about the team's thought process. I'm not sure he's much of a spin guy.

After last nights reach, I'm coming to terms we're about to take a QB at 50.

I was worried about that before yesterday, what with the recent Glennon infatuation.

They will be too many better prospects at actual positions of need (I assume Geno will be gone by 50) to reach for a QB at 2.50.

Guys I like for the Bears, assuming they don't go off the reservation (obviously a few of these guys will be picked before the Bears pick; I didn't include any OL):

WR Justin Hunter

WR Robert Woods

WR Markus Wheaton - probably a reach at 50

WR Ryan Swope - probably a reach at 50

TE Zach Ertz

DE Tank Carradine

DT Kawan Short (Melton insurance)

DT Jonathan Hankins (if you want a backup for Paea)

ILB Arthur Brown

ILB Manti Te'o

CB Jamar Taylor

CB Johnathan Banks

CB David Amerson

Ertz, Hunter, and Brown are the 3 I find most intriguing... Wouldn't be surprised in the least if they're all 3 gone though... I think Brown would be the most likely pick when considering who might be there and who the Bears might want

He's also more of a "pick from the hat" kinda guy

I think Long wore the same tie Cutler wore to his introductory press conference.

Players I like for the 4th for the Bears, probably pretty close to being in order:

WR Ryan Swope

RB Jonathan Franklin

WR Kenny Stills

CB Jordan Poyer

WR Quinton Patton

DE Alex Okafor

DT Akeem Spence

CB Brandon McGee

QB Matt Barkley- hell, the value is amazing at this point.

I was googling Bostic to see who this guy is. A summary of his scouting reports:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1614908-jon-bostic-5-things-you-need-to-know-about-the-florida-lb/page/6

NFL.com

Even though he’s not as tall as some coaches would like, his production (he led the Gators with 94 tackles as a junior), onfield attitude and instincts for the ball make him a potential mid-round pick and gives him a chance to eventually earn a starting job at the next level.

Bleacher Report

He'll be an instant contributor on special teams and a great addition to any team's culture. His instincts and toughness give him a chance to be more, but he'll have to overcome a lack of a great tools.

National Football Post

Bostic is worthy of a late round pick as I believe he can challenge to make a roster as a backup linebacker and special teams player. However, he is not someone I believe can be a starter and will struggle to carve out a long NFL career.

CBS sports

Bostic will make a club as an effective run-stuffing middle linebacker despite a lack of top-notch speed.

Emery must really be the smartest guy in the room.

Emery's post-Bostic pick interview really telegraphed a CB pick is coming next. I hope its not set in stone, but it kind of sounded like it was. I'm fine with a CB, but this pick should be BPA, in my opinion. Especially since I think our first two were need based. Not great values, but at least possible we found two Week 1 starters.

I don't get some of the complaints about speed for Bostic. He's faster/more athletic than Arthur Brown.

He generally got a 2nd/3rd round grade. The late round stuff seems out of line with most everything I had read and he definitely caught my eye when I watched Florida.

Yeah his measurables at the combine were very good, so athleticism isn't a question. I can't find a reason to dislike the pick.

Yeah, its somewhat suspect that his athleticism was questioned. He is as fast as Urlacher when he first came out. And Urlacher was viewed as a athletic freak. Perhaps its just racism. A white LB that runs a 4.5-4.6 is a freak. A black guy that does it "has to overcome lack of great tools", and has a problem with speed.

What the hell? Those were probably written pre-draft. And Urlacher was 6-4, 260 coming out, and ran as fast as some DBs/WRs.

The Bears won't pick another OL. They have a ton of depth right now and are probably already going to have 1 guy under 25 (with upside) on the bench as it is. Webb, Carimi, or Long will not start to open the season unless Slauson really does go to C and Garza is cut.

The height weight is a good point. It's one thing to run like a RB, but another thing when you're the size of a TE. Urlacher could always cheat a little bit more covering the middle because you couldn't sneak passes over him as easily.

If you go C, I'd rather go with the healthy one.

I love Da'Rick Rogers in the 4th.

Man, I thought he was closer to 240 when he was drafted but I just looked up his combine measureables and they listed him at 6'4" and 258. I thought he was a tad faster than a 4.57 in the 40 though. That doesn't seem that fast anymore, but when you're that big that's just hauling ass.
