There's nothing but joy there, which is the Kryptonite of Kyles everywhere. Oh, it must be delightful.

They made the awesomenest deadline load-up in history and still missed the playoffs. That's like concentrated Nomar viagra for doom bonerism.

Nah. Their new overlords don't give a [expletive] and will spend whatever it takes. I'd love to be at a point with the Cubs where I wouldn't worry about a missed playoff shot because the owners are determined to be in it no matter what and they have the money to back it up.

Though ridiculousness aside, this does bum me out because this is sort of what I was envisioning when the Cubs were up for sale. Obviously I was picturing something with a little more...finesse than what the Dodgers are swinging, but still; what could have been.

According to Cots, the Dodgers opening day payroll in 2012 was 105M. Next year, they have the Dodgers at 205M.

The Dodgers gave Greinke a full opt out clause after year 3 and if he's traded at any point, he can opt out following the season.

So if Greinke's worth 6/147 to the Dodgers, how much are they going to give Kershaw? It's got to be more than CC's 7/161, right? Kershaw and his agent have to be in heaven right now thinking about what they're going to sign for.

I'm not advocating this, but any chance the Dodgers' wacky spending ways push the rest of the MLB owners to instate a hard salary cap next CBA?

It'd be a reactionary move to be sure, but it'd be kind of like NCAA administrators finally being prompted to back a playoff because 2 SEC teams played in the BCS title game.

No way in hell the players would ever allow it to happen.

Probably not, that's true. Not sure I'd be surprised if the owners tried hard, though.

Yeah, they are always going to try. In the end it won't happen though because the players will never allow it. They want to continue to have the largest contracts in American sports.

It wouldn't be that hard to modify Cubs gear into Dodgers gear. I say we defect.

Only if they bring the Dodger Blues forums back to life. That used to be some damn good reading.

It'd be about right since every other advantage we should have is being taken away.

120 million dollar salary cap for teams that wear blue

Must be a false rumor. I saw Magic Johnson at Caesar's Palace yesterday. He couldn't possibly have signed off on the contract.

Assuming he stays healthy he's definitely going to get more than CC. I'd guess 6-7 years for 180-200

Greinke looked really uncomfortable at the presser. Admittedly, I didn't watch the whole thing. He said that he looked at the lineups of all the teams he was cosndiering and decided that the Dodgers were the best.

won't sign with a big market team, too scared of attention, etc

Well, considering how few fans are there at the beginning of games, he probably feels like it's not a big market team.

I've never seen a pro athlete look as awkward and uncertain during a press conference as he did the other day.
