Game 12 - Seattle Seahawks @ BEARS - 12 PM - Louis on IR :(

Jennings injured shoulder, Urlacher injured hamstring.

Because you want a lumbering, once fast MLB to have another leg injury.

He's not lumbering, but he's definitely lost his lateral speed. But now a hamstring injury? I don't think he can be the mediocre Urlacher he's been thus far if he loses even a half step.

Hamstring is usually a 2-4 week thing, depending on the severity of the pull.

I'd sit him next week no matter what, honestly. The Green Bay game will end up more important than whatever happens next week

Lurking on Seahawks forum all week. What a whiny bunch.

Which one?

seahawks.net. They cried all game long about how the refs were jobbing them, how the refs are out to get the seahawks, how the NFL overall is out to get them.

Ugh.

Thought this was interesting from Lovie:

"A terrible job I did getting our football team ready," Bears coach Lovie Smith said. "I thought we were ready to go. Some decisions I made really hurt us early on."

"Should've taken the field goal in a game like that," Smith said.

embarrassing performance by the D today

True, 17 points by an offense just isn't in any way acceptable either.

If Earl Bennett catches that pass, it's 24. And while I still think it's the right call, if they kick that field goal it's 27. The offense was good. 17 points isn't really telling to how solid it was today. The defense was the problem.

Zack Zaidman noted this on twitter. "Jay Cutler's passer rating was 119.6 vs. Seahawks, the first time in his career he's lost a game with a 100-plus passer rating (25-1)."

team is donezo

yeah, no way we win again

While this team is still probably going to make the playoffs, if this team can't beat a good team, this team isn't winning in the playoffs especially on the road which is the likely scenario now. It's as simple as that.

Also the 1st time a Cutler led Bears team has lost when leading after 3 quarters. The only other time it's happened in the last 4 years Cutler was out and the Bears got TEBOWED

This could actually be a bad thing. I think Lovie is already one of the more conservative coaches. While going for 3 may have been the right call, I was OK with the fact that he went for it (and seems to have gone for it on 4th down more than usual recently). I did hope before the play that they just sneaked it. Hopefully this one decision doesn't swing him back in the opposite direction now so that he punts and kicks every 4th and short.

It had already been established that they were stopping our run. A QB sneak might very well have also resulted in no gain.

The answer to Lovie becoming more conservative is simple: you simply look at each situation individually, and call the game accordingly. In another game, with different dynamics, you go for it. Just not right there, against that team, in that spot.

I'm not blaming the whole game on that one play, but Lovie is right to question himself about it, and it doesn't have anything to do with losing himself to a pool of overly-conservative playcalling from now on, or whatever.

Posted

Lovie also said, during the same answer, that he'd do it again, and that you have to expect to get a yard.

So I don't think it's going to mean anything long term

One of the things that always gets me is the opportunistic turnover late that can seal the deal, and when you don't get it, the opposition scores.

That Major Wright INT that wasn't grieves me. That would have likely just ended it, right there. And it was in his hands & everthing. And it was a bad decision/throw by Wilson -- one of his few.

Just got to have that. Need to make that play and stop the madness.

You go for it on 4th and inches inside the 40 every time. The odds bear it out. But they should have gone QB sneak in that situation.

Keep losing losers. We have the worst collection of pass catchers outside the only one who has business being on an nfl roster. What's worse is with all the fail ass drafting over the past few years we will most likely have to start rebuilding the defense. Many holes in this sinking ship.

On the bright side, if we lose at home vs GB that should knock us out and put Lovie on the hot seat. Anything to remove this offense from the field

I haven't seen the odds that cover all the probabilities. Maybe that's just me.

Probably the worst part of this loss is that the Oline was stout in pass blocking (left something to be desired running the ball) and Cutler was phenomenal, Cutler did everything right, and if Bennett catches that ball it can be, and likely is, a completely different game. The offense was effective enough in my mind that when they came to punt the ball to the Seahawks 3 yard line I was shocked there were only 5 minutes left, the whole game felt very strange and short.

The Seahawks put 450+ yards on the defense, and 170ish in 2 final drives that needed a stop ANYWHERE, and couldn't buy one. I dont want to lay all the blame on the Defense because 17 points is just not enough, but wow. Wow.

It's crazy how little plays here and there could have turned the game in our favor

-4th and inches in the red zone up 7-0. We go for a FG we're up 10-0 and have the momentum. We go for it on 4th and get it, we're possibly up 14-0 and really have the momentum

-J'Marcus Webb's terrible false start penalty on 2nd and 9 from the Seattle 43, roughly a first down from FG range and a 17-10 lead with 4-5 minutes left

-Jay Cutler's botched play action fumble on the next play, losing 7 yards and turning a 2nd and 9 to a 3rd and 21. The Bears decide to run a draw play instead of taking a shot at the first down, content that their defense will save the day again. The next time the Bears need big yards on a play, Cutler manages to connect with Marshall for 56 yards.

-Earl Bennett's dropped TD. It couldn't have been thrown better, and there was no way he doesn't score after making the catch. Instead of 14-0, it remains 7-0 after the Bears punt a couple of plays later. I later read that Earl's concussion was suffered on his dive into the end zone for his TD earlier in the game. If that's true, I suppose that excuses him a little

-And for me the most frustrating, Major Wright's dropped INT on the Seahawks 97 yard TD drive late in the 4th. If he makes that catch, and it was right in his hands, the Bears have the ball up 4 with slightly over 2 minutes left. The Bears would be a 1st down away from victory

There are more, like the 15 yard horse collar tackle on Urlacher, not making adjustments to contain Wilson as he repeatedly was able to bootleg to the outside and run for first downs on several key 3rd downs (reminds me a little of the Vikings repeatedly finding their TEs wide open for key first downs last week...what does Rod Marinelli do exactly?). Of course there are several plays that would have made the Seahawks victory easier, I guess it was just that type of game. But its frustrating to know if even one of those breaks go the other way, the Bears probably win.

Stop whining. Teams lose games they should win all the time. Yeah it sucks but you gotta pick your [expletive] up and get ready for the next one. The Packers lost to the Colts earlier this year, the Giants have lost multiple games they had no business losing, the 49ers went 0-1-1 against the Rams this year, etc.

But whatever, you choose to act like the world is ending each and every time we lose. Yes I know it appears the Bears don't have the pieces they need to make a SB run, but whatever, try to put a positive spin on things for once in your life.

I see what your saying but my positivity tokens are spent after they've lost horribly to playoff contending teams. Lets not even factor in that the Cubs and Bulls are my favorite teams in their respective sports. They cannot afford to lose this next one to the Vikings.

Ehh we had our breaks too. The Lynch fumble halted a promising Seattle drive, and Marshall happening to fall on his led to a TD. Could have been looking at a 10-point swing with those, at least. Also the return fumble by Weems that appeared to be recovered by Seattle inside our own 10 but couldn't be challenged. And finally, the Edwards ball at the end of the first half that was probably a TD and called incomplete. I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

All your points are valid, we blew multiple opportunities, but I really haven't had a "how did we lose this game?" experience since the Redskins game in 2010. Maybe the Broncos game last year.

The defense seems to finally be crashing back down to earth at the worst time. Two rookie QBs have had their way with us in the past three weeks. Huh...

We'll rebound. I hope.

I agreed with the decision to go for it on 4th early in the game instead of kicking the FG. Surprised Lovie made that call, though. The Bennett dropped TD pass (although I wasn't too pissed as it happened as I expected Scott to get hit with what looked like an obvious hold as he dragged a defender to the ground right in front of the official) and especially the Major Wright dropped INT really killed us. The Wright play would have ended the game. As good as our D is, we just can't seem to stop the young mobile QB's that like to run outside.
