Compared to Tressell he's the long arm of the law.

That said, I don't believe for a second that Urban is above anything unseemly

Long arm of the law? Didn't follow much of his career at Florida, did you?

Re-read the first part of my first sentence

I read your first sentence. You don't know what you're talking about. Urban doesn't care if someone is arrested as long as they help his teams win. There were over 30 players arrested during Urban's 6-year tenure at Florida. 41 of the 121 players on the 2008 Championship team were either arrested during their time at Florida or at some point after. He doesn't care if players are thugs as long as they're good.

The only Ohio State player of the 4 arrested this past week who sounds like he's off the team for sure is the no-name freshman. Hyde and Roby are just "suspended indefinitely."

And Carlos Hyde has been dismissed from Ohio State.

Is this true? ESPN says he's been suspended indefinitely, which tends to be the way a coach seems tough at the time it's fresh in the minds of people but allows him to cut it to a game or a half a game when the season starts.

Initial reports indicated he was being outright dismissed, but you are correct.

So apparently the Clowney hit from last year would be illegal this year, not because of "launching" or putting your helmet down into a guy but because they deem that the RB was "defenseless" in that play. I don't know how a RB getting a ball and running forward is a defenseless player on the field.

I just love that they're allowing refs to eject players for that sort of thing now. You're going to see so many suspicious ejections in games involving BCS contenders in November it's going to be ridiculous.

I don't know about that. But I don't like this rule. A lot of the calls are pretty much all going to be subjective/open to interpretation. I guess it's good they are allowing (maybe even requiring) all of those plays that they deem worthy of ejection to be reviewed. But when you give idiots more time to review idiotic calls I doubt the end result will be any better.

Come on.

It's melodramatic, I know, but giving conference-employed refs the ability to throw out other players on obvious judgment calls, when millions of dollars are at stake for those same conferences in some of these games - even if there's nothing sleazy going on, you'd think they'd at least try to avoid the appearance of impropriety.

And aside from that, it's stupid to try to assess 'targeting' intent. A good many of these hits look worse than they are because of instinctive movements the offensive player makes before contact. There's really no way to avoid that.

And from the Urban Meyer tough-guy file:

Brett McMurphy @McMurphyESPN

Braxton Miller tells @ESPN_BigTen "We got some good news (concerning Carlos Hyde)" Miller expects him not to miss any significant time

Evidently, a video from the nightclub where Hyde allegedly punched a woman shows that he didn't. Or something.

When the heads of SEC and ACC officiating looked at the Clowney hit individually, one said it was illegal and he would be kicked out if that happened this year, while the other didn't think it was. You can review these hits though to make sure someone should or shouldn't be kicked out, right?

Yes replay will be allowed to review the hits that could potentially lead to a guy getting kicked out. Idk if replay will be required or if a coach can challenge or what.

Coaches' poll comes out Thursday, while the AP preseason poll comes out Aug. 17.

I say it every single damn year but this is the longest off-season ever. Give me football.

Hyde's victim doesn't want to pursue charges so the case is closed. Nice.

Police could have pressed charges without her consent, but apparently the video is pretty inconclusive

I highly doubt he needs or uses bodyguards 99% of the time. There didn't seem to be any with him when he had beers thrown at him as he was getting kicked out of the frat party in Austin. His psycho dad seems to love drama and attention. And his enabling of Johnny is the root cause of most of Johnny's issues.

I doubt it. Probably has other responsibilities too but that's a medium ripe for violations of team, school, and NCAA rules. I'd be surprised if most teams don't do this
