i think that the twitter account has been under the same control the whole time and was just pretending to be a troll when whomever controls it released the "statement." the whole "the alabama offense thinks teo isn't real" is just a little too obvious and bad a joke for me.

And yes, the @LennayKay account was deleted, and someone else picked it up right after the Deadspin story dropped to do stuff like retweet Te'o's (is that how that works?) past tweets to that name, and other trolling things.

ND's "investigation" of the hoax was basically them just doing a Google search:
