And we were able to get him for $305! What a steal!

How in the world do you not see the other bills behind that. Could be all $1's, but its more than $305.

OK, $315. I'm sure if they were hundreds he would have laid them all out to help him achieve whatever effect he was going for in taking that pic.

By all accounts Treadwell is a smart kid with a 3.5 GPA. If he was illegally paid mad stacks of cash I doubt he'd be flaunting it on instagram. More likely is that he was trying to look cool with some cash he had and shortly after either he realized that it could look bad or somebody got to him and told him that it could look bad (because yeah, it does look bad)

Treadwell's recruitment is hardly suspicious. His best friend from his hometown is a freshman DB on the team. Treadwell helped his buddy move in last fall and started liking the town and the program and came down for several games and made friends with the players and the coaching stuff, etc. He also became tight with Robert Nkemdiche because of all the camps and all-star games they were at together. Treadwell has been around the program a ton and is close friends with a lot of the guys. It's not some huge surprise that he chose Ole Miss over Oklahoma and Oklahoma St.

Come on, it's college sports; do people really assume their favorite program isn't dirty?

Never said Ole Miss always has clean hands. I'm not naive. I saw way too many athletes driving absurdly fancy cars when I was in school to certainly raise my suspicions. However, Treadwell's commitment is hardly a shock to anyone who follows national recruiting. He has been tweeting and making public statements about how much he enjoys Ole Miss and Coach Freeze for six months now. Even before he publicly commited there were numerous reports out there about how he and Nkemdiche were zealously hounding other recruits at these All-Star games about visiting Ole Miss.

Treadwell has enough legit reasons to favor Ole Miss above the other schools he was interested in to negate someone's default position of "uh well he was paid off".

If Ole Miss is somehow able to flip Laremy Tunsil, as some are suspecting they may do, then even my red and blue eyebrow will be raised.

So they paid him off six months ago.

Try to think of it more as an endorsement deal.

Is your default position that most five star college players are paid off to go wherever they go? Honest question. Just trying to get a bearing on your opinion of college football recruiting.

I just assume the worst when it comes to this kind of thing; I'm really not a fan of college sports at all and I've not been shy about that, and that's largely due to the widespread corruption and hypocrisy of it all.

I don't really know what to believe. I think 85 percent of these type of "well he was paid off!" allegations are sour grapes from people whose teams lost out on a recruit. However, I'm not a fool and when I see a poor kid from the Mississippi Delta driving a nice Tahoe with fat rims, I have to wonder.

Even still, that's not necessarily indicative of cheating. If it's kids from really poor families, sure. But even middle-income type families are prone to buy their kids a car (or something) if they don't end up having to pay for college tuition and room and board and etc. (this is true for academic scholarships and the like, as well).

That's not to say most recruiting is bordering on dirty (I just find the car thing unfair, in general).

Why any black kid who isn't from Mississippi would want to go to college in Mississippi is totally beyond my comprehension level. I guess they don't tour the delta region on recruiting trips. I guess the same can be said for Alabama too.

Why would or should they visit the Delta and what difference would it make if they did? "Holy crap, can't go to Ole Miss, there are some really poor counties 100 miles away where some isht went down half a century ago." Would you expect a USC recruit to go visit Compton or have that influence his decision?

Of course their individual motivations vary but the bottom line is that they are obviously comfortable and enjoy themselves or they wouldn't choose to go there and/or their parents wouldn't let them go there. So whatever things you expect them to be turned off by don't seem to be a problem for them.

Why go to Compton when they can just step off the USC campus for an equally crime-riddled neighborhood?

How good is Treadwell's best friend? Where is he on the depth chart?

I didn't see him play this year. He may have redshirted.

What's his name? I'm curious where he fits into Ole Miss' plans.

Anthony Standifer. He's a DB.
