They were great all weekend. Had one SouthSideRyan-esque wordsmith shout "[expletive] A&M" at us after the game as we were walking into Houndstooth, but that was it. Everyone else was congratulating us on the win and talking about how impressed they were with Johnny Manziel. Amazing trip.

I didn't realize until last week that he was headed to Oregon until A&M offered late in the process and he decided to stay closer to home. Dude is fun to watch...envy your position, him playing so well as a freshman.

 

AU football doesn't have a legit FBS QB on the roster and the coach has completely lost the team. A solid HC hire in a few weeks hopefully gets things back on track.

Best part about Manziel is that he wanted to go to Texas but Mack Brown would only offer him a scholarship as a safety. That's why he committed to Oregon. Then one of our coaches was at his game to scout someone else. They went back to Mike Sherman and said we have to get Manziel. The rest is history. This is the first time in a LONG time that I am truly excited about A&M football and actually have a good reason for feeling so giddy.

That's not really that good of a basketball conference either.

Boise and SDSU aren't joining in basketball. Marquette, Georgetown, St. John's and the other basketball-only Big East schools will probably keep that league at least reasonably competitive in hoops.

I guess it's payback for 1998, eh? But Manziel better win the Heisman. The only thing Klein has on him is 10-0 vs 8-2.

I like Manziel, but he threw three picks and was a big part of losing the LSU game. He shouldn't win the Heisman over Klein at this juncture.

Green, 6-foot and 220 pounds, said he’s not concerned with Tigers’ 2-8 record and neither is Auburn’s coaching staff.

 

“They’re not going nowhere,” Green said. “They said, ‘We plan to be here.’ That’s what they told me. They plan to be here and they’re not going anywhere.”

Two of the three picks weren't on him, though. And he still threw for about 275 yards. If the numbers were close, it'd be one thing but they're not. Barring any injuries over the next few weeks, Manziel will finish with better stats than Tebow or Cam had when they won the Heisman. Plus we've played a much tougher schedule so far. RG3 won it last year with 3 losses.

It's a sticky situation. President Jay Gogue has not publicly indicated whether AD Jay Jacobs or HC Gene Chizik will keep their jobs. Those close to the situation are indicating that Gogue is likely going to keep Jacobs as the AD. However, my understanding is that Chizik is likely to be fired. A 7 million dollar buyout is significant, but you're losing merchandising and ticket revenue by fielding a team that shouldn't be on the same field with other SEC teams. It's not that they are just a bad team. They are the worst team in Auburn history. They are fundamentally unsound. Four and five star recruits are not being developed. Recent comments from new Defensive Coordinator Brian VanGorder is there is a culture issue that he is battling..laziness, entitlement. There have been too many arrests, too much player turnover (players being dismissed because of character issues) during Chizik's reign.

 

Chizik does have a nice recruiting class verbally committed for 2013, and many prominent recruits have indicated they may decommit if Chizk is let go. I expect Chizik will continue to tell recruits that he is coming back next year until he is told otherwise.

Purdue's going to get a good coach in Dave Doeren. Iowa beating NIU didn't make too much sense in the beginning of the season and it definitely doesn't make sense now.
