unfortunately i think we're probably dead-set on taking a DE at 5, but Moore & Werner don't really excite me much

Werner actually sounds a bit like Vanden Bosch - a hard working overachiever. KVB was fun to have in his prime, but I wouldn't bank on a lot of success stories like him.

we have to draft barrett jones. i don't care about anything else in the first

I've said it before but I will lose it like I never have before if Jones is available to the Titans in the 2nd and we pass on him. He's exactly what we need and I like him better than Dallas Thomas.

Werner's pretty good. More dynamic than a young VandenBosch. I've heard Chris Long comparisons (because they're both white), but I think he's a better athlete. Heard Osi comparisons, and that's probably a little better. Good athletic ability, relentless motor, decent number of pass rush moves. Not sure he's a top 5 talent, but there's about 2 people in this draft I think are legit top 5 talent.

Out of curiosity, who are those two?

I do agree that there are very few guys I'd actually feel have earned a top 5 pick, I do think there are guys with the talent to be top 5 guys, but have too many questions to be legit top 5 guys - Bray, C Patterson, Hunter, Ansah, Barkley, John Jenkins, for example.

Luke Joeckel and Jarvis Jones. Star Loutelelei is probably there too.

You have to include Lotulelei; I think he's a better prospect than Jones.

I said probably because I said 2 in my original post. Jarvis Jones may actually be the questionable one of those 3. He has that degenerative back condition that caused doctors at USC to tell him to retire.

Agreed. I think it might force him fall out of the top 5.

Walter Football's most recent mock has Jarvis Jones falling all the way to Pittsburgh at 17. I understand he has the degenerative spine issue, but wow.

Boom. Jarvis Jones drops to No. 17 overall in this mock. I had Jones going No. 2 overall a few updates ago, but check out Charlie's rumor mill entry on why Jones is expected to slide.

I believe dumb groupthink will cause Jones to fall on Draft Day. General managers will be petrified of his spinal issue. But, as smart teams like the Steelers, Giants, Ravens, etc. often do, they'll snatch up a plummeting draft prospect and laugh at all of the dumb organizations constantly picking in the top 10 as they field yet another Pro Bowler.

He has the Titans taking Milliner/Warford/Rambo/Ball in the first 4 rounds. Mike Munchak needs to read this mock and take it to heart.

Montee Ball? In the 4th round? That's a nice draft for the Titans though.

I could live with DJ Fluker in round 2 for Carolina.

Not a Montee Ball fan? I'd like a bigger back, but if he's the worst pick we make in the first four rounds I'm pretty happy.

I'm not a fan of Montee Ball, but in the 4th round, that's an absolute steal. That's what I mean by the question marks. Can't believe that he will actually last that long.

Ah, ok. I wasn't sure if the disbelief was over the Titans getting Ball that late or if it was just a dislike of Ball.

I like Ball outside the first couple of rounds, but for the Titans I'd like a slightly bigger back. Munchak wants a "thunder" option to CJ's "lightning" kind of like what we tried with CJ/LenDale, but I'm not convinced Montee is quite big enough for that.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but the Vikings are looking to trade Percy Harvin and it sounds like they want a 2nd round pick for him.

I'd give up a 2nd if im a team needing wr help. Miami should be all over this.

At a glance, it's a great fit. The Dolphins have 2 2nd round picks, Harvin's still on his rookie deal, and the Dolphins need a receiver, particularly one who is a threat downfield. It gets more complicated with deeper exploration. Harvin is more of a slot receiver. The Dolphins have Davone Bess, who is a pretty quality slot guy, already. Their greatest need is on the perimeter. At this very moment in time, their 1 and 2 perimeter receivers are Marlon Moore and Rishard Matthews. (Hartline is a free agent.) Harvin doesn't really help with that, and while Harvin is an improvement over anything on the roster, you would still be adding to a strength. Assuming they resign Hartline and trade for Harvin, they still lack a dependable perimeter threat and now have a pretty small receiving corps overall. It's not a move I would frown on, but it's definitely not an all-encompassing solution to their needs.

I think the Bears will sign Bushrod and go with a first round LB or C/G. If a quality WR/TE with an earlier grade falls to them, that that is a possibility but Ogletree is a good bet with the first pick.

Man, I hope the Bears don't have to settle for Bushrod.

Bushrod has the ties to Kromer, but he was actually worse than J'Marcus Webb last year. Hopefully Kromer and Emery (who looks at PFF) realize this.

I also don't know that Ogletree makes it past the Giants, unless Lane Johnson is still on the board.

I'm actually okay with Webb. I think our best chance at improving the OLine is going to be in the interior. If we shore up the inside we can live with Webb if his production stays average (and maybe he'll even improve).

I think the biggest question is with Carimi. If you were to make a move to bring in a T, you are fastracking him to G or being cut. So you kind of have to make that call. Note sure there will be any first round tackles worthy of pick 20 though if there is it'd almost certainly be a RT and not LT.

Lane Johnson has a shot to be there at 20. After that it's RT or OGs on the board. I could live with Webb at LT and sign a Vollmer at RT.

Webb-Fluker-Garza-Carimi/Louis-Vollmer could be an average OL with potential to get better once Garza is replaced and the OGs settle in.

Posted

Nah, you have to improve LT. Webb can still start at RT but you can't expect him to continue to improve, and for all the talk of improvement, he was barely at the bottom portion of average.

Sign a FA LT, pick up two interior OL in the draft.

Drafting first round defensive players are a luxury this team can't afford given the state of the offense.

I don't understand how every year people seem to talk themselves into being okay with the garbage the Bears have on this line. The only way you can even consider keeping status quo at LT is if you add a big time playmaker somewhere else to force defenses to cover/account for multiple guys. Even then you'd still have to add multiple offensive lineman since it is a 5 man group that uses 7+ players over a season with maybe 2 decent players to cover it.

I added a premier RT and a first round pick at OG. How is that Ok with the garbage? Webb is most likely going to start somewhere on the OL. Carimi will get every shot to also.
