Just saw the ending of the Saints-Bucs game.

Is there a point to the rule of not allowing a guy to go out of bounds and then be the first player to touch the ball? And more specifically with regards to this play, why can a guy get shoved out of bounds by a player on the other team and not touch the ball first?

The Vikings/Cardinals game was brutal. What an ugly win.

At least the Vikings next game is this Thursday night and those are never ugly.

Thursday night games are gift wrapped wins for the home team usually.

I think I'm on board with the general rule, as it allows the defender to be able to count on the sideline as a limit to where the offensive player can go.

That specific play, though -- seems to me if the receiver is pushed out he should be able to re-establish and make the catch. Apparently that's not the case.

It's really too bad VJ didn't quite get his feet in bounds on the previous play, too. He had a great day, playing injured too.

How the Bucs don't score, 1st and goal from the 1 yard line, is beyond me. That right there could have changed everything.

That was one of the better games to watch yesterday. Apparently Bucs fans are losing interest though; they narrowly avoided blackout.

Raiders/Jags was surprisingly watchable yesterday too :)

Just look at some playoff scenarios from the website playoffstatus.com

NFC Chance of playoffs:

Falcons 99%

49ers 70%

Bears 65%

Vikings 56%

Giants 55%

Packers 48%

---------------

Cowboys 43%

Seahawks 38%

Eagles 33%

Cardinals 30%

Redskins 26%

Rams 17%

Lions 15%

Saints 2%

Buccaneers 2%

Panthers 1%

AFC Chance of playoffs:

Texans 95%

Ravens 80%

Broncos 72%

Patriots 61%

Chargers 48%

Steelers 44%

---------------

Dolphins 40%

Jets 33%

Titans 31%

Colts 28%

Raiders 24%

Bills 19%

Bengals 15%

Chiefs 6%

Jaguars 4%

Browns 2%

Division leader chances of remaining:

Falcons 98%

Texans 82%

Ravens 68%

Broncos 60%

49ers 57%

Patriots 47%

Bears 40%

Giants 33%

The Falcons are in such a good spot, they could finish the year 3-7 and still have a 77% chance of winning the division. At 2-8, its nearly a 50-50 shot at making the playoffs, with the odds all coming from winning the division.

Moreover, Freeman was in the pocket when the shove was made, so technically it was illegal contact on top of it.

Panthers fired their GM today. Ron Rivera has gotta be nervous.

Long overdue. And I wouldn't miss Rivera either. Whole organization needs an overhaul.

Yes. Without it guys would run down out of bounds and use their bench, especially as a 12th man to help get around defenders.

Right, any way you look at it, it's a blown call. It has to at least be illegal contact

When they had Pereira on TV afterword he said that Freeman was out of the pocket when the shove occurred so there was no illegal contact, and that since the shove was legal the receiver still can't be the first one to touch it when he reestablishes himself. I can't see the replay right now to see if he was right about when the shove occurred.

Looking at it now (link) Freeman was a foot to the left of the left hash mark when the push occurs. The ball was snapped on the left hash mark.

Pereira was wrong. There was a picture somewhere, and I wish I could find it, that put a bright yellow square where the pocket was, and Freeman was a step or two inside it when the picture shows Williams being shoved.

In what I assume is part of an all-out plan to tank for Matt Barkley, the Chiefs are starting Brady Quinn this week.

Crennel said Quinn will take the reins "without having to look over his shoulder."

Malarkey for Barkley?

I was trying to come up with one and got nothing. That's probably as good as one can do with Barkley's name so I'll roll with it. Chiefs might have to get in line behind Carolina, though. They play later in the season.

Packers will still be 6-3 coming out of the bye. The only player getting hurt that would cripple that D is Matthews.
