If the Packers keep sucking, can State Farm finally go a different route for their commercials?

Those commercials get more and more hilarious as the Packers lose. Those people get better and better at heckling Rodgers.

"Oh, you think you're a hot shot quarterback??"

Holy [expletive]!

During the Rams' victory on Thursday night vs. the Cardinals, receiver Danny Amendola had to leave the game with an injured clavicle. But the thought afterward was the injury wasn't serious enough to end his season.

According to Jay Glazer on Fox NFL Sunday, though, it could have been much worse for Amendola. In fact, Glazer reported the injury could have been life-threatening.

According to Glazer, when Amendola's clavicle was dislocated, instead of it popping out away from his body, it actually popped inward toward his heart and his trachea. Glazer talked to trainers and doctors who said they usually see that kind of injury in fatal or near-fatal car accidents.

Soon after his injury, Amendola had to undergo a procedure in which doctors pulled the clavicle away from his aorta and then pushed back on it to see if it would pop out again.

The Rams' trainers reportedly called their colleagues across the league for help with treatment because it's such a rare occurrence, but Glazer said no NFL player had previously dealt with that type of issue.

“We have no case studies,” Glazer said the Rams told him. “We're not sure when he can come back.”

He's had some bad luck with injuries.

Glad he's OK. They showed him in the locker room throwing something in disgust after the injury. If they would have known where that break was, they probably would have immobilized him for safety.

So KC fans cheered when Matt Cassell went out with a concussion. Eric Winston didn't like that at all. They just played the audio on the radio...hard to argue with what he's saying here:

We are athletes, okay? We are athletes. We are not gladiators. This is not the Roman Coliseum. People pay their hard-earned money when they come in here and I believe they can boo, they can cheer and they can do whatever they want, I believe that. We are lucky to play this game. People, it’s hard economic times, and they still pay the money to do this.

But when somebody gets hurt, there are long lasting ramifications to the game we play, long lasting ramifications to the game we play. I’ve already kinda come to the understanding that I won’t live as long because I play this game and that’s okay, that’s a choice I’ve made and a choice all of us have made.

But when you cheer, when you cheer somebody getting knocked out, I don’t care who it is, and it just so happened to be Matt Cassel — it’s sickening. It’s 100 percent sickening. I’ve been in some rough times on some rough teams, I’ve never been more embarrassed in my life to play football than in that moment right there.

Here's a fun game: who are your playoff teams in the AFC? The AFC as a whole is terrible this year. Even if we assume Houston, Baltimore and New England get in, that still leaves three playoff spots for the AFC West winner (SD/DEN) and two wildcard spots.

There are only five teams over .500 in the AFC after five weeks, the above mentioned teams along with a San Diego team that just lost to previously winless New Orleans and a Cincinnati team whose best win was over Washington. Over at Football Outsiders, the bottom 6 teams and 8 of the bottom 10 teams are AFC teams (KC, OAK, TEN, JAC, PIT, NYJ, CLE, BUF), and as terrible as those teams have played to this point, a team like Pittsburgh still can't really be ruled out for a playoff spot.

If I had to guess right now, I'd guess that the AFC sorts out:

1. Houston 13-3

2. New England 11-5

3. Baltimore 11-5

4. Denver 10-6

5. Miami 9-7

6. San Diego 9-7

Pretty tough to call this early.

MIA in the playoffs? That would be crazy.

Life as a Houston Texan is pretty nice. All division games are against either total crap, or developing crap.

I've been telling people all offseason not to expect more than 5 wins out of this Colts team, and now the horribleness of the AFC is making me wonder if they could be in contention for a playoff spot. They have played 3 home games already, which is a problem (and didn't play particularly well in their one road game). But they have already played three of the four NFC teams, their non-common games with the division are Cleveland and Kansas City, and one of their Houston games is week 17 when Houston might be resting starters. Am I crazy to think they could get to 9 with some average to good luck in close games?

Then they cheered Quinn coming in. Yes, that Quinn.

That's what was befuddling about the cheers. Yeah, Cassel's been atrocious and Quinn might be a step up from what they've gotten from Cassel (almost anyone would be), but it's not like they've got a hotshot young stud waiting in the wings. Quinn is in his sixth season in the league already.

Sad to admit, but it kind of reminded me of Bear fans with backup QBs, and delusions that he will somehow make everything OK

I don't think it's a delusion that Quinn would be a star, but simply that he has to be better than what they have. Cassel was given star QB money, at his best was a true game manager who made a few plays and didn't turn it over, and now is a limited QB who turns it over plenty. He's so disliked that the KC fans booed him at the celebrity softball game during All-Star weekend. The backup QB is always the most popular guy on the team, and that's certainly the case here.

Marvin Harrison killed a guy so that should help Wayne's case

What ever happened with that?? He had one of the quietest retirements/falls to irrelevancy of any athlete who had such great career accomplishments.

The quiet part is not surprising at all. He's one of the most shy athletes, especially star-level athletes, ever. He was always going to disappear (now, disappearing with the shooting incident, well that was less expected . . .).
