I fear I'm incredibly stupid, but I honestly didn't know there were different footballs used for kicking. How are they different?

I feel like there was controversy a few years back with balls being tampered with so now the NFL holds the kicking balls until they're used.

The Saints, Packers and Patriots went a combined 41-7 last year. They're 2-7 this year.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the balls used to kick have quite a bit more air in them/are newer and more slick. But it's mostly them being not used as much and slicker than "game balls"

Watching the replay and trying to compare it to that picture, I think that screen shot is well after any call should be made. I think it was an interception, but not sure that image as damning as it looks.

Imagining 17 more weeks of this and these loser refs doing a SUPER BOWL is [expletive] hilarious to think about. please let that happen

Watching it again, the white ref out of the corner of his eye sees the black ref throw his hands straight up to signal stop the clock. I think whitey thought he was signaling touchdown so he threw his hands up in the TD motion. And it stuck.

Yep. Pic on the front of NFL.com says it all...

Something like this happening in the Super Bowl would be pretty entertaining.

I love Brandon McCarthy

Brandon McCarthy ‏@BMcCarthy32

Of the things the Packers O-Line was responsible for tonight, which was more: sacks allowed or fantastic tweets?

Same joke was made about Cutler first.

It's way funnier as a Jamarcus joke.

The play is being replayed over and over with every single analyst heavily weighing in on the side of the Packers. In fact, nobody with the exception of the Seahawks didn't seem to think the Packers were robbed.

So count me in the minority. I just don't see how its so clear.

Rule 8 - Section 3 - Article 1 - Item 5: Simultaneous Catch. If a pass is caught simultaneously by two eligible opponents, and both players retain it, the ball belongs to the passers. It is not a simultaneous catch if a player gains control first and an opponent subsequently gains joint control. If the ball is muffed after simultaneous touching by two such players, all the players of the passing team become eligible to catch the loose ball.

The rule states nothing about "who has more control", or "who has it against the chest". Both these arguments have been used over and over again by the TV folks. I mean, Steve Young was using the "against the chest" argument. But I don't see anything about a "chest" in the rule. It merely states that the ball is given to the one who has possession first.

To me, Golden Tate gets two hands on the ball around the same time as Jennings. Also, in the replay that is shown over and over, he seems to release his right arm for a second and put it back on the ball. However, it seems as if he has is left arm wedged in around the ball the whole time. There is no replay angle that shows his left arm isn't wrapped around the ball between Jennings arms and the ball.

I'm definitely in the minority. And I'm not an NFL official, or an expert. I just don't see how this is so clear. We've all seen player catch the ball with one hand and "have possession". Also, if Jennings so clearly had possession, then why did Golden Tate still have both arms on the ball while they went to the ground, and why wasn't Jennings able to pry it out?

I make no argument that Jennings didn't have "more" possession of the ball, but the rule makes no mention about who has more possession.

I'd be more pissed about the blatant PI.

I just watched the play in slow motion. Jennings catches the ball first and Tate has his right hand on Jennings's right forearm. As they're going down, he removes his hand from Jennings's forearm and tries to grab the ball. Jennings had control of the ball first and the whole time. Tate didn't.

It seems pretty clear that the second sentence in that rule explains it.
