I'm still baffled that Hoke didn't try an onside kick to start that 2nd half against the Notre Dame. You were kicking from the fifty, so worst case scenario, they start from their own 40ish? Or at the very least, since it's a live ball, try having the kicker skyrocket it and see if you can get a jumpball?

I didn't get that either. Would have put extra pressure on the defense, but you're talking about a difference of only 15 yards (starting at 40 vs. 25 w/ toubchback) against an offense that didn't have a 60 yard drive all game. Worst case was go down 13-0, still a 2 TD game. Best case, you get a recovery and a very short field.

Is Louisiana Tech pretty good or is Illinois that bad?

I know that Central Michigan isn't good but that didn't keep Iowa from losing to them.

I agree. That scenario was terrifying since I wasn't particularly worried about UM driving the length of the field - big plays were going to be how they won, and that would've been a huge one.

If you mean kick the ball sky high and have a defender challenge the receiver for the kick, doesn't the halo still apply if the kick hasn't touched the ground?

Well, it was fun being ranked for two weeks. Back to irrelevancy.

At least you made it 2 weeks. Tennessee got into the top 25 and then immediately crapped out in the second half against an inferior Florida team. Fun stuff.

I'm willing to admit that UF is just average, but worse than Tenn? Really?

Not considerably so, but we pretty well controlled the first two and a half quarters of the game. We fell flat on our face from about the middle of the third on, but I do think Tennessee is a little bit better team than Florida.

It's nitpicking, though, since I agree that neither team is better than average overall.

Does the halo apply to kickoffs or only punts? I've never seen a kickoff return man challenged for the catch, so I don't know.

You have to allow a receiver to fair catch the ball on a kickoff, that's why kicker's try for the pop-up bounce on onside kicks.

you can fair catch a pop-up bounce on onside kick attempts this year

I don't think there's a halo, but I'm pretty sure that in both college and the pros that you can call for a fair catch on a kickoff. That's why kickers make sure on onside kicks to have the ball hit the ground immediately so that the fair catch possibility is gone. But even if they didn't want to kick an onside kick, Michigan still should have treated it more like a punt and have a high kick short of the goal line. They would have had a good shot at trapping ND inside the 15 in that scenario if not inside the 10.

lol, only 3 ranked teams in the Big Ten

#14 Ohio State (will lose sooner or later after their medicore showings vs Cal and UAB)

#20 Michigan State

#23 Nebraska

Northwestern is #26 and Michigan #28 though

Northwestern will presumably replace MSU after Ohio State destroys them Saturday.

Ohio State couldn't even destroy Cal or UAB

Why do you think OSU is going to destroy MSU? MSU still has a quality defense and will rush enough to keep their offense on the field some. Truthfully I do not think Notre Dame is better than MSU. They were last week, but if they played 10 times MSU would probably win 5.

I reeeeeeaaaally like Jerry Kill

4-0

As bad as this conference is, Minnesota has as good of chance as any to win this stupid conference.

I'm not sure MSU can score touchdowns on a good defense.

i hate playing purple kansas. we beat the pants off them every year, and they still freak me out. it's something about their girls softball offense that just rubs me the wrong way

They are a pain in the ass to play.

After I saw what OU did to them in Dodge City last season, I'm not too afraid of them unless they changed. Since their school is supposed to be stuck in the early 90s I'm thinking they haven't.

Ha! Last year never matters.

I stand by my comment. I am not looking forward to going to Manhatten for the last games of the season.
