And before anyone else mentions it, the list is far from perfect, and no, no I would not trade Rizzo for Yadier Molina.

I might in the right circumstances. If I were trying to win in the present, had a large-market payroll and had another option handy for 1b.

Right, I think if both Molina and Rizzo were made available right now, Molina would definitely get more interest and probably generate a greater return. Two, maybe even one, year from now it will likely be the other way around.

Rumors are Wil Myers is being dangled for Shields or Lester. If he's going to come at that price, Theo has to be all over that with Shark+ someone like Vogelbach right?

That may be what Tampa or Boston are asking for, no way Myers goes for something less than a true ace, in my opinion. Not to mention, at this exact point, I actually think Shark has at least as much value as Shields and more than Lester.

I predict we get both Myers and Stanton this offseason and go into next year with an offensive core of Stanton - Rizzo - Castro - Myers. Fill in the gaps with Barney, Castillo, DeJesus and a couple years of Youk. Trade Soriano for whatever can be had.

DeJesus

Castro

Rizzo

Stanton

Youk

Myers

Castillo

Barney

It could be a very good offense in 2013 and a great one down the road.

We get rid of Shark, Baez, Vizcaino + more in getting this set up, so we have to get more pitching. We sign Haren to a two year deal. Sign Greinke with all the extra cash from the astonishingly cheap offense. Trade whatever other assets remain for Bauer.

Greinke

Garza

Haren

Baker

Bauer

Wood (long man / injury insurance)

Sign/trade for relievers.

Win big.

okay, I don't actually predict that will happen.

But it would be fun. ;)

At least we still would have the 2012 draft class plus Soler so the Cubs farm system won't be completely worthless.

Mets To Non-Tender Pelfrey, Acosta, Torres

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [November 27 at 1:34pm CST]

The Mets plan to non-tender Mike Pelfrey, Manny Acosta and Andres Torres this week, Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports. Barring an unexpected trade or change in plans, the Mets will decline to offer the players arbitration, and they'll become free agents.

If Epstein's still collecting fliers, Pelfrey and Acosta would be some good ones to look at.

I still wouldn't mind seeing us add one more starting pitcher. Much as I hate to say it, Travis Wood didn't earn himself anything more than trade bait/sixth starter status last year.

I agree they need another SP, and it needs to be one with a little more reliability involved. I'm fine with Wood, Baker, Feldman, and Vizcaino duking it out for 2 rotation spots, but you can't bring in another of their ilk now. Either a FA(or trade target) in the vein of McCarthy, Marcum, Liriano, a young guy with great potential like Bauer, or an outright prospect who doesn't require a MLB rotation spot unless they destroy AAA for 3-4 months.

The Cubs designated right-hander Casey Coleman for assignment, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports (on Twitter). The move creates 40-man roster space for newly signed right-hander Scott Feldman.

Our long national nightmare could be over.

http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/11/28/report-japanese-reliever-kyuji-fujikawa-prefers-cubs-or-angels/

Well, according to L.A. Times writer Mike DiGiovanna, Fujikawa must have liked what he saw. Per DiGiovanna: “Word out of Japan is the reliever Kyuji Fujikawa prefers to pitch for Angels or Cubs but hasn’t ruled out Diamondbacks.”

Japanese players frequently prefer to play on the West Coast for proximity reasons, so the Cubs’ inclusion is not merely one of convenience. Like I said, he must have liked what the Cubs had to say.

Perhaps it is because, as DiGiovanna adds, “Cubs could offer Fujikawa closing job but probably won’t contend. Kyuji wouldn’t close for Angels but would be on probable contender.”

Depending on whether or not he got a NTC, he could make fantastic trade bait in '13 or '14. Teams are always willing to way overpay for a closer.

From Marlin Bystro over on PSD:

Just to add to the discussion the Cubs are shopping Barney pretty heavy. I would be surprised if he is on the team much longer.

Not sure where to put this, but Marlin Bystro at PSD claims the Cubs are shopping Barney pretty hard.

Was then asked to where or who has the most interest and he replied:

Not sure yet. Should know more soon. Detroit has always been an easy one to link to though

Just wondering... what could Cubs get for Barney? I mean can he bring back a healthy Vizcaino type SP or is that too much? I'm having a hard time gauging his trade value*.

*EDIT: when it's just him in the deal

@mlbbowman: Braves could gain more financial flexibility if they move Hanson. Would free up around $4 mil. Adds to the options in search for another OF

I know he had a rough 2012, and that this is baseless speculation, but [expletive], I'd love to get ahold of Tommy Hanson. Especially if salary relief were their primary motivation.
