I'm happy about this. I wanted him out last year. Just too much old school there for my taste.

Anybody preaching an aggressive plate approach to our young prospects just doesn't sit well with me.

Has he actually said that, or are you just assuming he does since Hendry thought so highly of him? I always just assumed it, but the only times I've ever read or heard anything from Fleita is when he pumps up all of our prospects as elite talents.

When Hendry left, I said that I wanted Fleita gone, too. I'm happy Wilken will be staying, but I'm even more happy we are moving on from Fleita.

I remember there being, at the very least, whispers about it. Certainly, the results of our player development wouldn't indicate otherwise.

There's value to another voice in the room when it comes to player evaluation, but it can only be a distraction in the player development side. I feel they simply paid lip service to Oneiri being capable for delivering their message to the players. Now that they actually have some of "their guys" coming into the pipeline it's beyond time to get a development guy in there to teach their style.

I wonder if that hiring has been made yet.

Wholeheartedly agree with the both of you.

@CubsDen

Name to watch: #Cubs were very interested in bringing over #RedSox Director of Player Personnel David Finley when Theo was hired.

More from Bruce

But all bets apparently were off when the new management team, led by Theo Epstein, took over. Last week, the Cubs hired Jaron Madison from the San Diego Padres to be scouting director and moved Tim Wilken up from director of amateur and pro scouting to be a special assistant to Epstein and GM Jed Hoyer.

"All of us with the Cubs owe Oneri a debt of gratitude for his tremendous service to the organization over many years," said Epstein in a news release."Oneri has impacted countless people here in a positive way, and we wish him well as he continues his career elsewhere."

Fleita joined the Cubs organization in 1995 and is a longtime associate of former Cubs GM Jim Hendry. He was instrumental in the Cubs' growing presence in Latin America.

We will have more as the day progresses.

This is all because Theo felt lied to when he saw Oneri was white.

His last name is really Fleitastein.

Good. I wonder if a large part of this has to do with our big money IFA's from last year struggling so much. Acosta has to be the modern day Cerrano.

Press Release:

CUBS DISMISS VP/PLAYER PERSONNEL ONERI FLEITA

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15, 2012

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today announced that Oneri Fleita, the club’s Vice President of Player Personnel, will no longer be with the organization.

“All of us with the Cubs owe Oneri a debt of gratitude for his tremendous service to the organization over many years,” said Theo Epstein, President of Baseball Operations. “Oneri has impacted countless people here in a positive way, and we wish him well as he continues his career elsewhere.”

Fleita had been with the organization since 1995 when he oversaw extended spring training and was manager of Single-A Williamsport. He later served as an area scout, crosschecker and coordinator of Latin American operations before being tabbed to oversee the organization’s minor league system and international scouting operations in 2001. He was named Vice President, Player Personnel on October 16, 2007.

Prior to joining the Cubs, Fleita spent seven years in the Baltimore Orioles minor league system as a player, coach and manager.

I'm amusing myself by imagining how Fleita would describe being fired. Probably talk about "outstanding delivery of soul crushing information", emphasizing his "fantastic box packing ability", etc.

Does this mean Ronnie Woo Woo is being fired as well?
