Oh man, I loved Lew Ford for absolutely no reason when he was good with the Twins. I'm sure there'd be some super embarrassing trade proposals involving him from me if the board hadn't lost all those old posts. Good for him.

there's probably no proof of this, but i remember tim advocating trading zambrano for him at some point

Yeah I remember Lew Ford being a board favorite here in the Transactions forum. I remember a lot of outrage and laughter directed at the Twins when they traded for Shannon Stewart.

He's no longer in MLB of course, but Jim Bullinger hangs around New Orleans quite a bit and is one helluva guy. He does quite a bit to promote youth baseball here. His brother is also a local who's big into baseball and they pop up on the radio quite a bit.

the great thing about youth baseball is Jim Bullinger keeps getting older but the players stay the same age

Adam Greenberg was on ESPN today. Couldn't hear what they were talking about, but the ticker said something about how there is some "rally" to try to get him one more MLB at bat. My co-workers had no clue who he was, so I had to explain. They replied with "Why didn't he get out of the way? Idiot."

Sounds like you should show up to work on Monday and throw a baseball at their head.

Not hanging around, but I had somehow completely forgotten that Jon Lieber was on the 08 Cubs.

Steve Trachsel in 07 is even weirder, but I remembered that.

I was moderately excited when the Cubs acquired Jerome Williams. I dont get how a guy at age 21, can start 21 games with a 3.30 ERA and 124ERA+ and then have such an awful career from 23 to 30.... also cant believe he's still only 30...

Jerome Williams was 21 with the cubs? Wow.

No, he was 21 with the Giants in his rookie year. He was 23 and 24 with the Cubs.

I feel like 2008 was the last season I watched nearly every game, and I have zero recollection of Lieber being on that team.

Maybe I was too busy watching us beat the NL's ass all year long or something.

He was a long man, then maybe got a couple starts, got hurt which extended to "hurt" came back in September and just stopped pitching shortly thereafter. I can't remember if he just left the team during September, or denied the offer to travel with the team during the playoffs (while not on the active roster)

I guess it makes sense I wouldn't remember him if he was that guy in the pen. BR has him at 26 appearances with 1 start. That's not a lot; so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Also interesting to look back on his 2001 numbers. My memory has him being completely dominant; the numbers merely show "really good"

I'm kind of that way with Terry Mulholland. I keep thinking his career was better than it was because my only real memory of him is the '98 season.

Cubs told Greenberg "No thanks."

Good decision.

Not mentioned in this thread yet, but Xavier Nady actually has 109 PA for the Washington Nationals this year.

He has to be the oldest 33-year-old on the planet.

3-5 with two doubles and two walks against the Cubs in two games, of course.

josh donaldson is getting a good amount of PT for oakland this year.

Good decision.

Yeah, nice of the Cubs to have a front office that is not into stupid pandering to the fans garbage like this. Old regimes would have not only signed him, but had some stupid on field ceremony for it.
