Our MLB 3rd baseman goes on the DL....we're in last 60 games out of 1st..

..and we cant bring up a No.1 draft choice who has been in the minors 4 years...playing third base?

...Vitters is hitting around .265 with nine homers in 1/2 a season at AAA

He was drafted 5 years ago.....the 'he's not ready' excuse does not qualify...as an answer

Vitters cant come up for two weeks to play 3rd base so we can see if he's ready to be a major leaguer??

...we bring up a journeyman second baseman?

Not much doubt that the new management doss not consider Vitters a prospect of any kind, ever. Right?

Josh Vitters has never had a full year at any level in the minors. He is also young for the level he's currently playing in. He is doing OK at the plate, but not great. He is not ready for a promotion.

... OK?

The argument is exactly backwards. They would call up Vitters right now if they didn't think anything of him as a prospect. The fact that they are willing to take the time with him to do things right says they still think he can amount to something if handled properly.

This isn't directed just at Vitters, but I think it's going to take us a little getting used to seeing, in that our FO does take their time in moving kids up. It's pretty apparent already. Baez stuck in EXST much longer than anyone would have thought. Brett and Vitters have both had guys get injured in front of them, yet neither was moved. Guys like Cabrera and Struck were moved DOWN a level, after being in AAA last year. Rizzo is completing his full season in AAA. I think the process for all of our kids is going to be a little longer, hopefully with much more discipline and instruction, than it ever was before.

I honestly think we'll see Almora(assuming he signs) stick in Arizona and maybe get a taste of Boise this year. May not get to start next year in Peoria either, just like with Baez. Won't surprise me to see Soler stick in Boise all summer either.

Maybe if he was a great defensive third baseman you could bring him up for a bit, but no. He's still got a ton to work on in the minors. I mean hasn't his defense just reached "passible" this year?

i think it's still below average. but i'd like to see him win the starting job out of spring training next year, that would be nice.

I'd say it's less than 50/50 he's still in the Cubs organization by next spring. He just screams "extra thrown in to make other team feel better about giving up their best prospects."

That's silly.

Put him in a package for Headley.

Just that easy, eh?

Yeah, he doesn't seem like the type of player Theo wants to keep around (bad defense, no patience). My guess is they keep him in AAA to keep his numbers up and try to trade him in the offseason. Unless his defense shows significant improvement.

What about a Jackson/Vitters package for Headley, would they wet their beak?

Maybe I'd give them Jackson and a fringe prospect assuming we planned on signing Upton in the offseason. Otherwise, I'd offer Vitters and Szczur and maybe swap a few low level or fringe guys as well. Perhaps try to sell them on Volstad. If he can't make it there, he can't make it anywhere.

Headley rakes outside of Petco. And like WSR said, if you intead on signing Upton, you could piece something like this together..

David DeJesus RF

BJ Upton CF

Anthony Rizzo 1B

Chase Headley 3B

Starlin Castro SS

Stephen Drew 2B

LaHair/Soriano/or FA LF

Soto C

That would be dumb. Headley is good, but not that good.

He's on pace for like 7 fWAR this year, FWIW. And he just turned 28.
