Brett Jackson is playing LF today for some reason.

Perhaps our current Left Fielder could end up on a other team in the not too distant future and nobody wants to see a combination of Johnson/Campana/Mather composing 2/3 of our OF no matter how lost of a season it is.

At the Iowa Cubs game. Wind is blowing hard to left-center. However, only Rizzo's solo shot was wind-aided. Jackson and Apocada's HR were no-doubters. 11-1 after 4. Also, Corey Patterson still sucks at hitting left-handed pitchers.

Edit: Rizzo's single in the first hit the wall on the fly but bounced right back to the RF. it was hit on a line. Vitters has made two good defensive plays.

Any chance it's to see Sappelt in CF even though he's been pretty awful at the plate this year? That position is one of the biggest offensive black holes on the Cubs at the moment, so they could be looking to try anything as we know what we have in the current bunch.

I am still rooting for Vitters. If he can do 18 hrs at 280 avg and 340 obp. He would still be in the future plans.

Sappelt's ceiling is a 4th outfielder, though a good one. I don't think they'd go out of the way to bring him up, especially since I can't see him being an upgrade over what he have now. My guess is by August first 1-3 of Baker, Johnson, and Mather will be gone and he'll take one of their places.

Baez launched one foul onto Jefferson street and up into the CAT parking lot...then reached on infield single and stole second (5th SB)

I've never been to Peoria's stadium, but judging from google maps that's an easy 400+ feet.

Don't look now, but Brett Jackson is a hit or walk away from an .850 OPS. If he can cut down the K rate over the next month, I say bring him to Chicago.

Cubs had mercy on the opponent and took Rizzo out of the game on a double switch.

Oh and Javier Baez just walked for the 2nd day in a row. Not sure if it was a pitch around as 1B was open, but usually don't see pitch-arounds down 4-1.

even if it's a pitch around, at least he's not swinging. he doesn't seem like a guy who has much natural patience, but hopefully he becomes a good enough hitter that pitchers nibble against him and he learns to lay off and take some freebies.

It is kind of hard to believe that Vitters is still only 22. It doesn't appear at this point that he will be an all-star caliber hitter, but it is not out of the realm of possibility that he can still develop into a solid major league player.
