Slot 'em:

Rizzo

(Soler)

Almora

Baez

Jackson

In that order, for me.

1) Rizzo: most proven

2) Baez: highest upside

3) Almora: most rounded

4) (Soler): power potential

5) Jackson: just needs more contact to be really good

man, reading draft chat is kind of sad.

"Who will draft mccullers?"

"Well, only a couple teams have the slot to sign him."

What a terrible system.

Yeah. Who exactly does this system benefit?

The teams with a lot of money can't spend it, the teams without a lot of money can't invest in their minor league system, and the players don't get paid. It's a lose, lose, lose.

It sucks and its bad for small market teams. It's been proven that small market teams can spend in the draft and build up their farm system, which was probably the best way they could build a contender. Now they have to invest in a great front office and scouting staff and hit on a high percentage of their picks to build a good team. If a big market team misses on picks, they have the option to fill spots via FA. Teams like the Royals and Rays do not. It's too bad, as Selig has been whining about small market inequality for years and then he does something like this right when small market teams were starting to take advantage of the draft.

There are a few too many questions regarding Soler for me to have him ahead of Almora or Baez.

1. Rizzo

2. Almora

3. Baez

4. (Soler)

5. Jackson

Hope to see one high ceiling pitcher in the sandwich round.

Let's see what happens with Soler first. Not like the Cubs are going to be the only one on him.

He's in parentheses. What more do you want?

But I totally believe we have a deal in place.

Based on what? Many teams could be under the impression they have a deal with him, illegal, but possible.

Hope the Cubs get him, but any talk of a secret deal already being done is all hypothetical speculation for now.

whos the best player to come out of this first round, 7 years from now?

Kiley McDaniel:

Gimme Almora all day long

Media reports, rumors from semi-reliable message board sources, and the Cubs' pattern of behavior in the last year.

I don't know who Kiley McDaniel is, but he is now the most credible draft pundit in the world in my mind.

Love it.

Why wouldn't he have already signed with us instead of telling teams to have offers in by the 7th? I don't believe we have a deal in place, personally.

But we're interested and we have a boatload of money, so I like our chances.
