Is this the worst number three hitter in the history of the cubs? Screw you, Jim Hendry, Tom Ricketts,.and anyone else who made this a reality.

Wasn't Joe Mather a thing many years ago? He was never a top prospect, but didn't he have some degree of hype somewhere between '06-'08?

No, and most things can be attributed to Ricketts. He's cutting payroll! He's letting the Dodgers be the mid-tier but big market team to make the rise to the top (with Ned Colletti)! He's the reason I've watched three seasons of three different shows this week. That's got to total 24 hours, easy.

You do realize that Ricketts offered Epstein a virtually open checkbook and he was the one to chose this direction, right?

Do we know that forsure?

Also, Theo, Jed, and Ricketts are responsible for 3 really bad baseball teams this year (Cubs, Padres, Red Sox). Just sayin...

Didn't Lenny Harris bat 3rd during his awful stint?

That's awful, too, but I still think Joe Mather is worse.

There may have been a give up lineup of Dusty or Lou's that had someone worse, but I'm not sure. There was probably someone worse during the brutal 90s, but who knows.

Not too upset about this, really. Consider the Cubs' available position players:

Koyie Hill

Blake Lalli

Jeff Baker

Darwin Barney

Adrian Cardenas

Starlin Castro

Bryan LaHair

Ian Stewart

Tony Campana

David DeJesus

Reed Johnson

Joe Mather

Alfonso Soriano

I've always felt Castro belonged in the two spot, and with that being the case, who out of the motley cast of remaining losers do you put behind him? Stewart was scratched tonight and LaHair is in the midst of a brutal 2 week slump. This roster presently sucks.

The Rays have the third best record in baseball and were batting Drew Sutton 4th the other day.

i seem to remember being furious about him leading off

according to b-r's game finder thing, it looks like harris started at leadoff twice with the cubs and never started a game hitting third, though you have to have a subscription thing to see the specific games in which this happened.

And complete autonomy, so don't blame anyone but the boy genius.

Well obviously, because if that young whippersnapper had went out and signed Pujols or Fielder, we'd be undefeated right now!

OK thanks to baseball reference, selected 3 hitters since 2003:

DeWitt (8)

Fontenot (3)

Montanez

Fox

Ward

Cedeno

O'Leary

Ward doesn't belong on this list.

I like you for your ability to detect sarcasm. Ricketts is the way the truth and the light.
