Speaking of Wood HRs, his HR in his first game back from TJS was pretty bad ass.

Until the Cubs are in the WS, the Game 7 HR will stand as the single most exciting moment in my sports fan life.

I think Sammy's bomb in game 1 was bigger for me for some reason. Maybe because of when in the game it happened.

I thought I was sadly indifferent to Wood's career finally coming to an end, but seeing that clip of the ovation and his reactions just killed me.

So long, Kerry.

Similar here. Wood retiring isn't really surprising, and I didn't really think the actual moment would really matter much to me personally. I was in meetings all afternoon and snuck a peak at twitter in the latter parts of the game and saw references to Wood's final appearance coming up. Then I had to see on At Bat the strikeout and I was so freaking pissed that I couldn't experience that moment as it was happening.

Watching the video was brutal. One of my favorite Cubs ever. So many great moments. I hate to see him go out on a struggling team like this, but he has had a fantastic career.

I think that was the only moment in that game where I really believed they would win.

I hate that Kerry ever pitched for Cleveland. He should've been a Cub his whole career

NOBODY TELL HIM ABOUT THAT OTHER TEAM.

I'M PRETENDING THERE WERE NO OTHER TEAMS. HE WAS JUST PLAYING MINOR LEAGUE BALL WITH MICHAEL JORDAN

I'm pissed the Yankees didn't win a World Series that year with Wood.

Is there a site to watch the 2003 playoff games or something? Would be nice to look back on them besides the last three. I have the Game 5 game Kerry pitched against the Braves.

Unfortunately the 2003 Cubs don't exist on The Internet except on Cub sites. Possibly I lack skills but I can't find a shred of good 2003 material.

Which sadly reminded me of MJ's little stint with The Wizards.

Yeah it sucks.

I was unfortunately driving home from Memphis during the game yesterday and finally got to watch his final appearance. I got a little choked up. Definitely my favorite Cubs player of "my" generation. He's a year younger than me and it just completely sucks that his body couldn't hold up to let all the talent show. That 20K game is easily the most unbelievable performance I've ever seen. The break on that curve was just cartoonish.

watching that last stroll from the mound to the dugout was pretty emotional. what a great competitor, and quite possibly my favorite cub of all time. the perfect final note for a great career.

Great speech, just too bad they had Laura Ricketts stumble through the intro. Almost got misty as he was thanking Ron.

I kept holding out that he would at least return to last years quality. If he had, he would be as good as any we have in the pen now.

It really burns me that guys like bernstien were ranting about him taking a roster spot from some of the kids. Facts didn't matter. Grabbing guys off waivers, and off the unemployment line to fill our didn't matter, kerry was taking someone's spot. right now, there is a good chance that camp's arm will fall off from pitching everyday. judging from the "guys" we brought in, and brought up, he took no ones spot.

also when he kept ranting about why is everybody making a big deal he wasn't good. Damn, that pissed me off. Maybe he wasn't Hall of Fame, maybe he wasn't all that we hoped he would be, he was good, and at times very, very good.

anyone who pitches in the majors for 14 years is good. His 6 years as a starter were very good. 67 wins, era somewhere around 3.40, k per 9 innings off the chart.3/1 k to walk ratio, winning record every year but 1(8-9) with teams that finsihed 6th, 3rd, 5th and 3rd to go along a 2nd and a division title.

Can't help that his body gave out a bit but I would his stats as a starter against a whole lot of pitchers.
