Beat me to it. Looks like there's our big announcement. As awful as he's been this year, I do have mixed emotions. I'll be willing to bet that he takes a little vacay and then resurfaces with a front office position.

Wow. Even though he was awful this year, it's weird to think he's done. Heres hoping he transitions to coach/announcer

Just heard it on the Score. Sarah Wood posted something on her twitter account saying that with every ending is a new beginning. Peggy Kusinski broke the story.

If true, thanks for the years, Woody. :hello:

Bittersweet feeling. The 20 K game was the best single game pitching performance in Chicago history. One of my absolute all time favorite players in any sport. Sadly, will always be a what if next to his career.

Thanks Kerry.

As long as he was on the team, there was still hope that 16-year-old me was right when he was absolutely sure that Wood would be a member of the next Cubs World Series team.

I remember in spring of 1998 when an opposing coach, after Wood was sent down, said "If they have five guys better than him, they're going to the World Series."

I remember checking the Chicago Tribune's agate page for the one time a week they ran minor-league numbers to see how he was doing at Iowa.

I remember how excited I was when he was finally called up. I remember being in the school's computer lab during 7th period and checking the score during one of his early starts, only to see an insane line score that didn't seem possible. I sprinted home after school in time to see the 9th inning and Ks 19 and 20.

Thanks for the memories, Kerry Wood.

The was the best game ever pitched in the history of baseball. Never have seen anything like that movement in my life. Sad to see him go.

Well, that's not official, but there's certainly no reason to doubt the reports at this point.

Really wanted Woody to be part of the team that won it all for us. That said, absolutely one of my favorite Cubs. He did whatever was asked of him and could have been a hall of famer if not for all of the arm issues. Edited by Hendry's Ghost

Maybe CSN or MLBN will replay that game sometime soon with him retiring?

Hopefully in the front office some where.

Well, I don't think we should be surprised obviously. I hope he sticks around in some capacity. I think I'm happy about this honestly, because if he struggled this badly all year, I know I would have hated it.

That curveball to Dave Clark at the 1:25 mark is just unbelievable.

Fixed.

Hearing rumors they are talking about retiring his number. I'm kind of against that. Had a few unbelievable years, but there's a reason he was on the Indians and Yankees.

Design a super nice plaque to put up in concourse in Wrigley somewhere and that's more than a fitting tribute to him.

Edit: Or maybe put a '20K' on a flag or a foul pole.
