Good grief. Harper is at a 7.4 WAR so far this season.

OPS still over 1.100. wRC+ over 200. Pretty absurd what he's doing.

Harper has walked in 18.8% of his PA's this year, which leads the league. In 2004, Barry Bonds walked in 37.6% of his PA's. Bonds' intentional walk rate that year was 19.4%.

Posted this in cubs positivity but figured i'd cross post here because there wasn't a great place for it

Thought the last few posts of the first page and then the second page were kind of entertaining...

It's cub related white sox misery porn

I am not a White Sox hater, except their radio and tv guys make me that way. Playing just well enough to not be sellers at the deadline, and then immediately collapsing back on their faces has been somewhat fun.

I'm finding it impossible not to like the Blue Jays right now. They're a team full of dinger machines and they're taking down the Yankees. Its awesome. Definitely my #2 bandwagon team the rest of the way.

I don't think we are allowed to have bandwagon teams when we are a playoff team.

Yep. I hate when I order one and they ask me what I want on it.

Or when I get one and Publix (Publix actually makes a solid Cuban when they make it correctly) and ask me if I want "everything" on it...because then I don't know what "everything" means, because one time I said yes, and they put lettuce and tomatoes and [expletive] in it. Like WTF?

Sidenote: one time when I got a meatball sub at Subway, they asked if I wanted everything on it, and my dumbass, stupidly assuming this meant anything that a normal person would conceivably put on a meatball sub (i.e. cheese, parm, maybe some spices), said yes. They proceeded to put lettuce, olives, and all that other [expletive] they put on sandwiches in it. I was a stupid 15 or 16 year old and was too shocked and/or shy to say anything. I had two bites of it when I got home. It was disgusting and I threw it out.

Publix makes amazing subs, but their sandwich makers, no matter which Publix I go to, move at about the speed of a dead snail. They're so [expletive] slow. I've once had to wait 10 minutes to get a sandwich made, and I was the only person in line at the entire deli. And every fresh made sandwich has been prepared differently. Whether it's cutting the bread open in a different way, wrapping it before getting it pressed a different way, etc. There is no training involved when having their deli workers make sandwiches and it's frustrating because they're really kind of amazing.

So now I just get the premade Cubans, which aren't nearly as good, but I also don't need to waste 10-15 minutes of my life waiting for a sloppily prepared sandwich.

That's bad news for the Cubs. Hopefully they won't hire a competent person.

Meh, Melvin was fine as a GM. He never had much in the way of a payroll to work with. So he took his time, put together a very competitive team for a few years, and is eating dust now that they've left their competitive window.

He's not the guy I'd have heading up my list of candidates if I was an owner looking for a new GM. But he'd be a great GM for a team with a strong/involved team president.

Right. He couldn't afford to keep Fielder, they gambled on trading for Sabathia and Greinke and couldn't afford to keep either of them. He turned out Fielder, Braun, Lucroy, Weeks, Hart, Hardy, traded for Sabathia, Greinke, Gomez, Lind, K-Rod. I'm sure I'm forgetting guys. He made some good moves. They just never had enough home grown pitching and couldn't afford to keep most guys, Braun got busted, etc...
