Man, some of you were weird kids, and I say this as someone who was definitely a weird kid. At least I had the excuse of my dad being a huge Cubs fan and the 1984 season being the first one I really got into.

I just wasn't a sports fan kid. My parents only were Cubs fans because my neighbor was such a huge Cubs fan that he got us to be fans. I got into the Bulls during the first championship run....the Cubs in the mid 90's...even the Bears I was really only casual on until the Urlacher draft.

I think most of it was timing with me...Cubs in 1984, Bears in 1986, Jordan showing up in the 80's. My dad was and is an enormous fan of all of those teams, and his excitement over what was happening from '84 onwards just kind of naturally drew my brother in (and we were living overseas '84-'97 so we'd be sent tapes by friends and family that were filled with games, so we watched those all the time because there weren't many other options), plus that's when we started playing sports ourselves and realizing there things like baseball cards (and shitty football and basketball cards, too), plus Nintendo showed up and we were nuts about the sports games that came with it, too.

I was late for football practice the entire last week of the season so I could keep watching the Cubs win, and then would be home in time to watch ESPN so i could get periodic updates on the Rockies game.

But I was certainly a fan before then. I loved by Boys of Zimmer hoodless sweatshirt when I was 5 years old. Wore that thing everywhere.

Cubs got me in 89, though I'd watched them before because my dad and grandpa were huge fans. I'll say this though, I think a terrible team can kind of cement your fan status as a kid. I got locked into the Cowboys during their 1-15 season and remember thinking that I had really been there through the tough times in the 90s when they won all those super bowls. I was like 12 lol.

Don't forget that Anthony Young lost something like 30 games in a row. Man, I REALLY wanted Kevin Foster and Geremi Gonzalez to be good.

I know it's been posted on this board before but never forget this:

Oh,Chip.

I hope you were chewing on a rotten cigar and just quietly nodding in approval.

Also, Brian Mcrae was my favorite player...because I don't know why. But I did at one point IM with him on AOL and he remained on my buddy list for like 10 years after that.

Brian McRae is my least favorite player in history for two reasons not pertaining to baseball...

1) My 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Thomas, was his sister-in-law, and that woman was a Grade-A bitch.

2) At a silent auction Mrs. Thomas and her sister, Mrs. McRae, happened to be there. Tons of people showed up and all bid on these really awesome sports items. Like seriously nice stuff. The one thing I begged my Dad to bid on was like a 1950's Topps Whitey Ford card. I think its book value was something like $50, which at the time for a kid my age I might as well have had $1,000. My Dad was the high bidder on that (at only $10 -- A STEAL!!) and a couple other items. There had to have been over 100 items there. Bruian McRae's wife comes through with 10 minutes left and just assembly lines all the items. Goes right down the line, not caring what they were, and just signs her name and puts in the high bid. Ends up winning like 85% of the entire auction. It's okay, though, my Dad was able to get a sweet autographed Donnell Woolford Bears hat.

[expletive] Brian McRae.

Home runs bouncing off of or causing damage to scoreboards and Jumbotrons and signs and whatever the [expletive] will be infinitely more satisfying.

Glenallen you magnificent bastard

When Tom Ricketts gets his way, that will all be blocked and impossible. There's no end to his evil.

Drop in a token, watch Glenallen swing, drop in 2 tokens to watch him connect.

tom is going to keep 1/3 of rizzo's salary on retainer each season to cover potential damage anthony might do to the jumbotron

I love the Glenallen Hill single where he unsuccessfully tried calling for time and ended up stepping into the box as the pitch was thrown.

Peter Gammons is having a Twitter conversation with someone right now but he isn't quoting or mentioning the other party. Amazing.

Why am I picturing him as Clint Eastwood talking to a chair?

Meanwhile, the Cubs can't do [expletive] at Wrigley.
