Yeah, Arky. Didn't double check my spelling.

some other good ones:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/awards_1944.shtml#NLmvp (maybe everyone too distracted by the war to notice that they were voting for a sub .700 OPS guy over stan musial?)

(willie mays led the NL in WAR a LOT - 10 times - but only won MVP twice. guess he didn't know how to win)

http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/awards_1941.shtml#ALmvp (dimaggio had a great year, but how does .406/.553/.735/1.287 not win it?)

(ted williams led the AL in WAR 6 times; only won MVP twice.)

I will never wrap my head around how this was ever possible. (ETA - and I'm not getting hung up on the face-value math either)

That doesn't look like the cream or the clear.

I was watching the Nats/Yankees this weekend too and had to look up whether Xavier Nady actually played for the Cubs or if I just made that up in my head. Maybe the most forgettable Cub of all time for me for some reason.

I was in a Modell's in the area a year or so ago and on the clearance rack was a Xavier Nady Yankees shirt for $2. I bought it, of course. It's probably the only one in existence.

I'm glad Clemens was acquitted. What a ponderous prosecution for a crime that, frankly, is not very serious.

In 7 months, Clemens, Bonds, and Sosa all will appear on the HOF ballot. And then, we'll see much about the lay of the land over the steroid era.

This might be known as the great HOF steroid vote.

By the way, I think Timmy nailed what will eventually become the stock description of the era:

Kurkjian believes Clemens “did something, but they just couldn’t prove it.” Still, he looks at steroids as “an era-wide issue,” adding that “a whole lot of people did something during that era and no one seemed to be stopping them from doing it.
