That, ladies and gents, is called winning two in a row. Yesterday the Braves realized they're gonna need a bigger boat. Today, they get put in the Dumpster. Ryan Dempster has, I believe, the lowest ERA among starters in the majors at the moment. The Braves are sending some schmuck named Delgado who is 2-3 with a 5.14 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. I'm told LaHair plans on eating him alive.

LaHair is unimpressed with the Braves offering.

Jesus Christ, he can't not look creepy.

He does somewhat resemble the not quite mentally there adult son who lives in his parents or grandparents attic or basement that the neighborhood kids always want to play with depsite their parents pleas to stay away from him. Goonies and To Kill a Mockingbird both tell me that he's harmless.

LaHair is like Hodor. I'll now envision him going into the dugout after his HRs just saying "LaHair" over and over again.

As of today, Ian Stewart actually has a higher OPS than Aramis Ramirez. (.637 to .623)

I'm going to have to print a fresh batch of fan club membership applications. I expect numbers to be growing very soon.

Of course, it doesn't really mean that either of them have been good offensively (and oddly enough Ramirez seems to be rating better defensively early on).

However, Stewart's peripheral stats are miles better and project for his improvement more than Ramirez's.

As a special fan club entry promotional, we're taking predictions on the date Stewart's OPS catches up to the league average 3b (.730, as of yesterday).

I'm going with July 4 to be patriotic.

You say patriotic I say unnecessarily pessimistic.

I was looking up current fWAR's of some of our guys, since Kyle posted LaHair is already at a 1.9. Shark is 1.2, Castro is 1.3, Demp is 1.0, Garza is 0.9, Stewart is -0.1, Volstad is 0.7, Maholm is -0.1, Barney, DeJesus, and Campana are all at 0.2, Soriano is 0.4, and Soto is 0.0.

My questions are with as unlucky as Stewart has been, how is he THAT bad currently and how is Volstad even remotely close to Garza and Dempster?

Volstad hasn't been nearly as bad has his w-l and ERA make him look.

Simple answer is that fWAR uses peripherals for pitchers and actual results for hitters.

Stewart's fWAR is heavily influenced by his negative fielding and baserunning ratings.

Stewart's defensive numbers haven't been great in the early going, and even though he has peripheral hope for improvement, he still has to actually do productive things to add value.

Volstad's peripherals are not out of the ordinary, but the inning of doom(46.3 LOB% v. 69% career and 72% league average) has made his ERA and W-L very poor. He also has 6 starts to Garza's 5 and Dempster's 4.
