Fortunately, LaHair isn't next on the list at the moment. Johnson, Castillo, and Camp yet to go before even considering LaHair.

Sean Camp has been by our most serviceable right handed reliever. No reason to railroad him out of town for no reason other than the fact that he's old and uninteresting. In sure someone will take that to mean my undying love for him, but I'm just saying that as long as the majority if our pen can't seem to throw strikes we should hang on to the guy that can.

Camp has been fine. I look forward to him being traded in July.

So Wood got optioned back for Cardenas. I thought they might have tried to give Wood another turn.

In whose place?

volstad, obviously.

If Volstad was the guy 6 starts ago, he should still be the guy now, regardless of whether Wood had a decent outing or not.

you don't think wood's start made volstad's leash shorter?

I hope not.

Not necessarily in anybody's place. But they seem to be giving Garza an entire turn in the rotation to recover from being sick, they've talked about doing stuff to limit Samardzija's innings, Dempster has already hit the DL and the other two have struggled. I thought that after calling the guy up and getting a decent outing out of him they wouldn't rush to send him back down and might give him another look. They have an off day Thursday but then have 13 straight, and with the very shaky bullpen at the moment it might also help to have another stretched out arm on the staff.

If we're handing out jobs based on spring training, I don't see why we couldn't shuffle them around based on six starts.

That said, Volstads peripherals warrant a continued stay in the rotation regardless of his ERA.

Option status, Samardzija's dominance, and a lack of SP injuries in ST determined Wood and Volstad's rotation fate more than their ST performance. Wood falling apart early in ST made the decision even easier.

Spring training results determined status, why shouldn't regular season major league starts?

Well, Volstad's peripherals aren't bad, while Wood has been pretty bad in Iowa. At the very least, I'd like to see Wood get a few more starts in Iowa to prove his start in Chicago wasn't an outlier.

Giving the nature of pacific coast league baseball, I think seeing what he does in Chicago and other major league ballparks may be more useful in determining his ability.

One decent start and mediocre milb numbers (regardless of league) shouldn't be enough to get Wood into Volstad's spot.

Yet.

I didn't say anything about taking Volstad's spot. I said I thought they might try and give Wood another start while he's up here.

I can see the benefit, but they probably didn't think it was worth playing so shorthanded for a few days. Four bench players runs out really quickly, and with the off day coming up and with Garza going to take his next turn all the starters are going to get an extra day of rest anyway. And by the time they would need Wood to break up that 13 game stretch he'd be eligible to come back up anyway.

Cardenas will supposedly be up to take the vacated infielder spot, per one of the Iowa clubhouse guys on Twitter.

I don't know how reliable this gentleman is - put whatever stock in it you so choose.

This will bring the 25-man back to capacity, but it will leave a 40-man spot open. Preparing for Brett Jackson in a month, perhaps?

Apparently, this guy got fired for leaking stuff to the Trib, according to my buddy who works for the PCL.

Guess I won't be citing him on future news, will I?

any news on whether he's been claimed?

No. It's very, very doubtful anyone does. The only question is whether he'll head to Iowa or try to catch on elsewhere. But he'd forfeit his major league deal to do it.

Isn't DeWitt's D Day upon us? Maybe Hoyer and Epstein are so bogged down with offers of top prospect packages that they need to wait until the last minute to decide and they'll make the announcement of where they'll be sending his talents via TV special.

I don't think they would have a TV special for that. Not only is DeWitt not popular enough, but there's never been such a show.
