thanks for the 7 walks and all the cringe worthy impressions.

also for the good pitching the last 5 years.

It's his job. We give him money, he gives us good pitching.

He also earns the right to not be traded without his consent.

but he gave at least some sort of indication that he would accept a trade to atlanta, otherwise theo/hoyer wouldn't have been spending time on them. that's why i still think he eventually gives the ok. he's just dragging his feet.

(a) the 5/10 rule was collectively bargained (by union thugs, obviously). the players have the right to decline a trade under their agreement with MLB, and people shouldn't get their panties in a wad every time a player exercises their right to decline a trade. it's not ryan dempster's responsibility to get good prospects for the cubs.

(b) ryan dempster has given the cubs more good pitching than the cubs have given ryan dempster money.

Not to go Dr. Phil here, but I believe it's OK to be pissed off at Dempster for not accepting right away. We are fans of the Cubs more than individual players, so of course we are going to be looking out for our best interests. Just like he's doing on his side.

It's quite simple, if you have reservations about Atlanta don't put them on the list. Quit wistling Dixie and wasting Thoyers time

this would be fine if he didn't previously indicate he'd accept a trade to atlanta. that is what's annoying.

Except Dempster has stated publicly multiple times that he knows the direction of the franchise, would happily accept a trade to a contender, and would like to have his legacy be a nice pitcher in return. Also he made a list of teams he would like to be traded to and the Braves were #2. Sorry but he looks like a flake.

i'm enjoying the blind loyalty that casto's spray chart has for dempster in this thread.

sounds to me like dempster was all geared up for la, then had his feelingd hurt when the atlanta news broke. now he's pouting and stomping his feet to try and regain some power. i bet this still happens. if not, [expletive] ryan dempster. thanks for the 7 walks and all the cringe worthy impressions.

Or maybe you're the one stomping his feet like a 6 year old on Christmas morning who didn't get the shiny new toy he had automatically felt he was getting because some guy told him so.

That's what the money's for!

No wait, now it doesn't work. You ruined it.

That makes no sense

That's exactly what people are angry about. he should have just kept his mouth shut. Instead he talked about how he'd agree to a trade to a contender if it would help the Cubs. He also said something to the extent of making sure they got a good return or whatever. Instead he's estentialy held the team hostage when they had a trade in olace to a team that was one that he had already said was one of his preferred destinations. So if people are angry it's because he's full of [expletive].

You mock him for "blind loyalty", then turn around and speculate something completely unfounded in order to legitimize your feelings of angst about a situation you have close to no information on.

...wow, that sentence just kept going and going.

it's pretty obvious that he had indicated he'd go to atlanta. how long ago was it that all those quotes came out about theo and dempster keeping in contact and having discussed where he'd be willing to go? the pictures of them in the empty stands, etc.

so knowing that, do you think it's reasonable to think that the cubs front office spent time negotiating with atlanta and COMING TO A TRADE AGREEMENT without being under the impression that he'd accept a deal there?

it's common sense. we know theo and dempster have kept in contact and have been on the same page. they wouldn't have come to an agreement with atlanta if they thought dempster was unwilling to go there.

Don't fret, my swarthy little monkeys.

It stopped being funny bout the 5th time you posted that

Obviously no one knows exactly what Dempster previously agreed to. We do know they had an extensive one on one conversation before a game about the time his name started getting strongly linked to teams. I just find it really hard to believe that Dempster didn't give Theo some very real and specific parameters as to what would get him to waive is 10/5. I also find it incredibly hard to believe Theo just blatantly ignored those parameters.

The much more likely scenerio is that Dempster just fell in love with the idea of playing in LA recently and is forcing everyone's hand to make it happen.

Other threads may have been longer, but I think this is the first to feature Morrissey.
