Frank Wren apparently on Atlanta sports radio right now and directly stated that there was a deal in place, that it expired yesterday, and the Braves have moved on.

Curses.

Sweet. Thanks, Demp.

Leverage with Dodgers: Gone. Hopefully, the deal is done with them. Get this [expletive] over with.

Quote from Dempster : "The Chicago Cubs are going to do what's best for the Cubs. I have a chance to do what's best for me. And I'm going to try and do that."

Which is fine, but don't give the indication that you are ok with bring traded. If Dempster would have come out and said I don't want to be traded, this wouldn't be a big deal.

Yep. Aramis basically said that last year.

You can even keep your family in Chicago for now while you pitch in Atlanta for 3 months.

yeah you have three kids under the age of 6, one of which needs significant medical attention, what's the big deal about being an absentee dad for a few months

I see what you're saying, Truffle, but it's three months. Even if he stays with the Cubs, he's still going to be gone half of the time for the next two, and I'm sure that he could make arrangements with a team that really wants him in which he can fly home for a few days between his starts. Unless Ryan is the one providing the medical care or Jenny is on her own caring for the three kids, which I doubt, the medical attention part is irrelevant to whether or not he's around.

On the other side of the coin, the school year starts in about a month, so it's more than reasonable for them to know where they'll be beyond the 2012 baseball season, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he does want a team that is willing to give him an extension. He's going to be 36 next season, so there's a good chance that wherever he signs his next contract is where he'll finish his career.

Yhere's the 24 hours before he can accept thing with 10/5 rights, hopefully our deal IS in place and th hat's why Braves moved on. Plus, dealing Eovaldi leaves them a guy short right now. Please announce this [expletive] before the game tonight.

I think you're reaching a bit. If the Brewers called up and said we'd take Delgado for Greinke, I doubt the Braves would even hesitate to pull the trigger.

I'd still take the original rumor of Gould and Withrow. I didn't think that was a bad deal.

I would too, but it's a kick in the nuts after seeing what we could of had.

Like I said, I was hopeful, but Dempster's in the damn lineup today......

A huge kick in the nuts. But it was going to be no matter what.

Oh, they've moved on have they. Did he make mention of what they've moved on to? Cole Hamels who's about to sign an extension? Zack Greinke who every contender is scouting, and will cost a lot more than Randall Delgado? Cliff Lee, whose team wants a big chunk of his salary picked up, which the Braves likely can't afford? Josh Johnson who will cost 2 arms, 3 legs and a PTBNL? Francisco Liriano who's as inconsistent as they come? Matt Garza who's, um, well, nobody's quite sure what's going on with Matt Garza. There are more teams looking for starting pitching then there are available front end starting pitchers. By Tuesday afternoon, at 4PM Eastern Time, every pitcher who is available will have found a loving home.

I know it's just 3 hours from game time, but even if the deal is completed at 11:20, they could have Germano spot start. They'd be an arm short, but Marmol is the only reliever that's been used the past 2 days, and tomorrow's an off day.

He's earned the right to reject this trade, but I also reserve the right to like him a whole lot less. I'm assuming Dodgers offer a 25 year old A ball guy and a signed Magic Johnson jersey at this point

If the Dodgers start playing hardball, then I would actually wouldn't mind the Cubs just walking away. Dempster has rights, well you know the Cubs have rights as well. If he doesn't want to help us, then the Cubs don't have to help him by sending him to his #1 destination.
