I don't get it, Atlanta is a good team this year, I can't speak for itself as a city(only passed through), but it's not a complete dump like Detroit or Cleveland, I really don't get it. Bite me Dempster, you cost us Delgado.

Demp: Decision "gets harder when something that wasn't supposed to become public knowledge becomes public knowledge."

i read this as he is pissed that it leaked out because he wasn't going to accept it and now everyone knows he's being a tool so he is more likely to take it now.

Yep, now he knows he's ruining the team's leverage by saying no.

it is a pretty crappy city though. The Applebee's of major US cities.

Well, no matter how this works out, I'm guessing we're not sniffing Randall Delgado.

If he goes to Atlanta, the deal is for Delgado. If he goes somewhere else or doesn't get traded, Delgado isn't an option anyway. The Braves can't really change their offer just because Dempster pitches tomorrow. And if they do, the Cubs decline it anyway.

Is it possible he's upset about the Braves deal going public because he didn't want to publicly veto something?

I think that's entirely likely. I see no other reason why it becoming public would make on iota of difference.

Oooh, I like that. Never thought of it that way, but that's dead on.

Dempster needs two weeks, and maybe an extended road trip, to contemplate whether he can be away from his family for 9 weeks.

He'd only have to be there for 3-4 months. A chance to win, and it's not like many of the downsides to a city are the same for a millionaire.

Well, this offer will be pulled any time now. Can't blame Braves either, since it's apparent he doesn't want to be there.

Is it possible that the Cubs are giving up something else in this deal they do not want to? Also that the Dodgers need a slight nudge to give the Cubs what they want?

I just have a feeling Dempster is helping the Cubs push the Dodgers into giving them Zach Lee for Demp, which then frees up Garza for Texas or a larger bidding war....

It seems like right as the Dempster trade gets leaked the Garza / Dodgers talks got leaked as well. Something about this scenerio seems off, Dempster has continued to speak highly of the direction Theo and Jed are taking the Cubs, knows he was a trade target and knows how media and baseball works. I really doubt he is pissed off and it sounds more likely he wants to go to the Dodgers and the Cubs prefer to get the Dodgers package over the Braves.....

A lot of southerners like to think it's an up and coming NYC, which is hilarious.

That makes no sense, at all. The paradigm of Dempster's decision did not change with the "leak." (If he thought he could make the decision, turn down the trade offer to the Braves, and never have that become public knowledge, he's foolishly naive -- the media is quite good at discovering such information.)

Remember a couple pages ago when it wasn't kosher to be annoyed with Dempster? That was cute.

It was never kosher to be a raving [expletive] lunatic before you knew what was going on.

So the Braves were dumb enough to give up Delgado for Dempster, and then got so excited about their stupidity that they leaked the information prematurely, which may ultimately result in the Cubs not only missing out on Delgado, but getting less than they would have had the Braves never been interested? Is that about right? Cause I can really get on board with hating the Braves, they did that nonsense trying to steal 2nd base and I still haven't forgotten or forgiven.

I will say that this whole saga has been bizarre. I guess there will be lots of speculation as to Dempster's motives and why he is upset.

I just hope it goes through, because getting Delgado would be a great haul.

So Dempster is mad at the media for doing their job? And to get back at them he's going to spite the Cubs organization? That seems misplaced.

IF ANYONE BOOS DEMPSTER'S NEXT START BEFORE HE'S MADE A DECISION, I WILL PUNCH YOU ALL IN THE DICKHOLES

The majority of the meatheads who make up the Wrigley attendance on a given night aren't in touch with the organization enough to boo Dempster over this. They likely have no idea who Delgado is, how great of a trade this could've been, no idea that this was a great move towards rebuilding, and they probably all love Dempster irrationally because they saw him do "funny" impersonations on ESPN/FOX once and also the fact he's white.

Also his decision will be made before he makes his next start in Wrigley, most likely. As that would be a week+ away.

I think the idea that he was going to veto the trade, but he doesn't want to look like a bad guy and now has to at least keep up the pretense of considering it has some merit.
