Our starting pitcher ERA has to be near the top of MLB, even with the Maholm debacle.

The Cubs' starter ERA (entering today) was 3.73, good for 15th in MLB. KC leads the majors at 1.55.

I'm guessing most would say that latter, but there are probably some that think that its not necessary to become historically futile and an even bigger laughing stock around baseball along the way to long term improvement.

Um, only some? What idiot would think you had to be really bad this year in order to facilitate longterm improvement?

Sorry, I worded that wrong. I just mean that most people would take a 40 win season in stride as long as improvements were made in the organization such as a strong draft, international signings, the emergence of several prospects, etc., but some people would call out Theo for spouting BS about "every season is an opportunity to win, we're going to try to win every year although the future is going to be the most important thing" and just not be able to accept their team going through so much futility, even if they knew that the organization is improving elsewhere.

Marmol update: 60 pitches, 2 swing-and-miss

Teams know that he struggles with his command. Until he proves that he can get his FB and slider over for strikes, no on should even think about swinging.

I guess that makes sense, I didn't realize how poorly all the offenses were performing so far.

I highly doubt most people would accept a 40-win season. That type of complete incompetence would run the risk of seriously speeding up the loss of interest and revenue.

The Cubs staff has had two disastrous 5-run innings to this point. Just those two innings are more runs than the Pirates' staff has given up all year.

You know you are on a bad streak when you get PH for by the backup catcher.

Maybe he was traded immediately before that AB.

Why waste Mather there?

Clevenger represented the tying run. He's a catcher with no speed. A single could even it up. It was the right call.
