I highly doubt this would happen but you never know. Obviously the expectations for Theo's first year are extremely low. But after all the talk about "the future is more important, but we'll also be trying to win now", how would you feel if this year's Cubs were historically futile? Like 41-121?

 

Would that change your feeling towards Theo, or would you just be satisfied as long as the Cubs are making steps towards improving for the future?

 

I'm guessing most would say that latter, but there are probably some that think that its not necessary to become historically futile and an even bigger laughing stock around baseball along the way to long term improvement.

 

Edit: Also if this were to happen, KyleJRM's nightmare scenario might come true and sooner than he thought, because I wouldnt expect more than 20K in the stands the last few months of the season.

Historically bad wouldn't change much for me. As long as the organization is doing the things to make future success more attainable I'm fine. The trouble to me is that Hendry left things in such a mess that it'll take several years to turn things around. I'm not getting any younger and neither is my Dad. More than anything, I want my 79 year old Dad to see the Cubs win a World Series.
