After the great outing by Shark today, I'm really hoping Volstad can follow it up with a good outing. Would be really encouraging if both of them can finally hit their stride.

I'm expecting our starting pitching will keep us in a lot of games this year. The offense and bullpen are much bigger questions, though I think they'll get the pen figured out by the end of the year.

 

Yeah, I feel pretty good about the starting pitching this year as well. Just hoping Volstad can go from a decent part of the bottom of a rotation to something better. Seeing him pitch really well today would be an encouraging sign toward that.

With the game being on WCIU is it likely to be Blacked out on ESPN? I forget how this works but I live in Indiana and cannot get WCIU.

Looks like I'm getting both the Brewers and ESPN tonight. I never get the WCIU feed, of course. But Madison is in this weird twilight zone. We're in the Brewers' market.....kind of.

The local or "home" markets for MLB teams are just absurd. The Cubs' home market includes all of Illinois except for a chunk around St. Louis, the entire state of Iowa, and all of Indiana except for chunks around Evansville, Louisville, and Cincinnati.

Even with that map, I still can't explain why random Twins games will suddenly show up, or why sometimes the Brewer games that are on that WMLW channel are blacked out in Madison.....occasionally.

 

I think the likely answer is, the league doesn't really have it nailed down 100%

 

 

Anyway, I'm allowing myself to be pumped about Volstad tonight. And if he pitches well, I'll apply all kinds of irrational projections on how great a Cub he's going to be :)

last season i had MLB EI; braves, reds, nationals and oriole games were blacked out for me, living in NC. this year with MLBTV only the braves are blacked out. i think the difference is because my IP address shows up as SC :-$ ...either way i'm alot happier this year.

 

with that being said, MLB has no freaking clue wtf they are doing

I moved from the south side of Milwaukee to downtown Milwaukee and I can now get Cubs games without the blackout. Hooray! Apparently a few miles makes a big difference. :-k

MLB is so [expletive] stupid. So I can watch Cubs games at home, but I can't watch them at lunch on my iPad because I work in a blacked out zip code 8 miles away.

The Reds were inexplicably added to the blackout list for South Bend this year (which already included both Chicago teams and the Tigers) even though Cincinnati is a good 5.5 or 6 hours from here. Milwaukee is twice as close and is not blacked out. 5 miles north of here in Niles, Michigan, the Tigers are the only blacked-out team.

 

Anyway, I picked a really crappy day to not get on the computer. Missed my GDT turn and my mock-draft pick. I'll post a GDT for the next game after CT's run is over.
